Gearbox is weeping a bit of oil so want to check the level...but the filler plug on the side won't budge with a standard length ring spanner or an 18 inch torque wrench.
Any bright ideas please? _________________ Jo |

Give the strong arm a crack with a lump hammer or get a longer one _________________ |

try nipping it up a bit with a breaker bar, then undoing it. failing that same as markymoan says pullon breaker bar whilst someone its it on top of the knuckle, i have undone many truck wheel nuts and u bolts this way so it should work on a gearbox filler bung |

Mine was a swine too, took a bit of inventiveness with sockets and breaker bar to get more leaverage. Worth remembering to make sure you can undo the filler before you drain any too, I actually remembered to do that! Also bought an oil syringe, makes life loads easier, rather than squeezing a bottle and getting more up your sleeve! |

use a socket breaker bar and slide a length of tube over the breaker bar
the longer the tube the more force |

When I did mine last year I joined extentions together to get out side of the body, then my 14st son sat on a 3 foot breaker bar while I gave a sharp tap !! with a hammer on end of extention. Be careful its an alloy gearbox.

Thanks for all the replies...sorry for cheking back earlier...WinXP decided to go on strike!
I'll try a longer bar for extra leverage....might try a bit of heat from a hot air gun first. Am aware of the box being alloy which is why I have been treading carefully so far....and I remembered not to drain the box before getting the filler off (been there many years ago... )
