|
|
Hi there,
I've just bought a 1988 swb trooper 2.6 petrol
Just wondered if anyone new what the weight of this is? I passed my test after 97 so my towing weight is limited to 2.5tonnes combined and i can only tow a trailer up 750kgs on its own.
So can i tow a trailer without doing catagory b?
Any help much apreciated.

I found out the other day that I should have a taco graph fitted, due to commercial use exceeding 3.5 ton GVW.
Still nobody bothers do they |

That what i thought, thing is i would like o able to tow larger than 750kgs but i have to take a category B test which is basically the same as my original test (interms of regulations) but with a trailer, i am very confident in towing and manouvering etc but there is no way i would pass my test again
And from what i can gather it would cost around £1000 for the official training and the test
I'm not convinced its worth £1000.
Any suggestions?

It would be better to take a lgv test at that sort of money, then atleast you can drive bigger than a van _________________ |

The trailer test is the same at the C+E test (Class 1-in old money). Not the same as the car test but plus a trailer. It is an hour long drive starting from your local HGV test centre.
Think you can tow more than 750kg if the trailer has brakes, but only up to 2/3 the vehicle weight or as said previously a GTW of 3500kg.
LGV test would be more than £1000 now. Must do a rigid test now before you can do the artic test. _________________ Isuzu Trooper SWB 3.0DT Commercial |

Hi I have passed the towing test about two years ago had to do it for work. The test consists of an s manoeuvre and then parks it in a hashed box. Then you go out on the road for about 45 mins. Then you come back to the test centre and have to unhitch and connect the trailer with the dreaded h&s in mind. Then after that you have to talk though you checks on the trailer like hitch height and safety checks. It all sound a bit hard but in fact the guys who test you are more interested in your abilities in being safe on the road than stupid things like crossing your arms. I did it with a company called road train in south mimms services off the M25. I was really sceptical about doing the test thought I new what I was doing when towing but in fact I learnt a lot and would recommend it your be surprised. _________________ Lotus Bighorn 3.1td
