hi, im new to the forum and already have a question for anyone! i need to tension the alternator belt and have found the release bolts but the alternator will notbudge. Is this because i have missed something or is it just a job for wd40? As far as i am aware this job has never been done before so am i correct in assuming it may just be a bit seized? would appreciate any possible suggestions.

Assuming it is 2.8 or 3.1 You should only need to slacken the long bolt & nut underneath the alternator (pivot bolt), slacken the bolts at both ends of the top arm, then pivot the alternator to tension the belt.
It's a bit different with AC fitted as there is a remote adjuster on the top arm. WD is good for this bolt. Just remember to slacken all pivot points for both the alternator & the top arm.

thanks for the info. its proved to be very useful. by the way its the 3.1 duty on an R plate , its an import and has proved very reliable. more than capable of towing two large horses in a large ifor williams trailer.  luckily it doesnt have a/c so that made the job easier!  thanks again for the help.
