They are redoing the job now and I am wondering whether I should be expected to pay more. I didnt think as much, but am keen to hear opinions. The bloke seems genuine enough and it was an absolutely beautiful job until the rust started to show through again.

Any repair work should be fit for at least twelve months.

IMO a proper repair should last the life of the vehicle.

I work in car manufacturing and, if we get a scratched or dented car on the production line it isn't scrapped it's repaired.
You'd probably be surprised at how many brand new cars have had bodywork repairs before even leaving the factory.
Our cars have a 12 year anti-corrossion warranty and so the repair has to be good enough to last at least that long as well as being completely invisible.
I know it's more difficult when working with older cars already exposed to the elements but, when a bodyshop repairer is properly trained it can be done.

Correct Crocket, My stepfather was a bodyman untill fairly recently and even when he did older cars the car would fall apart before the body showed signs of wear...

Just an update:

Original repairer redid the arches and they look great. He said he cut out the rust this time instead of filling over it.

He seems a genuine fellow and the car is back to him in a fe wmonths for some chassis work. Im happy. They didnt charge for the repair.

Just a finicky little point, but one that i feel should be made.

Troopers don't suffer from rust, rust is for lesser motors. Troopers suffer from " Tin worm "  Laughing  Wink .
