I take it you have tried it from stationary?

It sounds like it is not engaging because it has not been used and something has most probably got stuck/seized - most prob auto hubs (but I am not that mechanical!)

But that seems logical

Hi
sound to me like the small vacumn operated cylinder on the
transfer box or the smaller ones on the front axle
one or all may have stuck
you don't have 'auto hubs' as such
the front axle engaged drive from within
you could check the cylinders remove clean
lightly oil i would use air tool oil
just a wipe over inside
and check the outer pipe work at the same time
if you jack up the front and engage the switch
you need the engine running
try to turn each front wheel in turn
you will find if 'locked'it will turn the front prop
or it may turn the other wheel
if not engaged then the wheel will rotate freely
cheers
GM

"Shift-on-the fly" has permantly locked hubs rather than auto or manual. The actuation is inside the axle instead.

As in previous posts the 2 most likely probs are electrical connections on the axle or that it has never been used in 4wd and is therefore sticking unlocked.

I'm getting dizzy.
FACT shift on the fly DOES NOT have any sort of locking hub unless fitted by the owner (mr t fitted manual ones to his to save his driveshaft from wear)
Also, myself and GM have given the op sound advice on how to test the shift on the fly  Smile
Please dont confuse things by talking about auto hubs  Wink

Bit quicker at typing Marky Laughing

Just thinking though, what on earth would happen with autos fitted? Flick the switch at 60mph and BANG Embarassed That'd be expensive Rolling Eyes

I have never worked out why a person would want to stick it in 4x4 at 20mph never mind 60  Shocked
It would rip the transfer box apart.

Oops sorry yeh, auto hubs would be a disaster with shift on the fly.

I can tell you one scenario Marky.

Driving up the motorway on a winters day. Arrive at a patch of compacted snow with ice underneath. No chance of braking to avoid the cars snaking about the place so flick it into 4 high and carry on driving without lifting from the throttle.

What a buzz that was Laughing
