It just sounds like its waxed(frozen) in the filter, normal diesel would do the same if it didnt come with the anti wax allready in it.
We used to have loads of problems with machines at work that run on red. _________________ |

Oh yes Marky, the dreaded wax, I'd forgotten all about that. Used to work in marine salvage in the '60s and lighting fires under the sumps and in the air intakes of all our large pump, crane and boat diesels was the Law in frosty conditions.
They were pretty much all hand cranked too..
We had shares in Easi-Start.
Mind you, I was fit then. _________________ 1999 Cougar with a NICE motor..

I think that was pretty much it. That and/or the fuel pump just couldn't handle the viscosity. Worrying thing is that when I drained the tank (by pulling the bigger rubber hose from the tank to the rigid section of tube) I seemed to get about 30 litres of more or less pure oil.......I'm thinking that the diesel and oil have been separating with the oil floating on top so maybe I have not in fact been successfully running a blend after all.
With the large injectors (and indirect injection I think?) on the 2.8td surely with the right fuel pump and filter it shouldn't really matter?? Incidentally where can I get a coarser filter? And a more powerful pump and how would that affect the ammount of fuel/oil being injected?? |

Why not try making Biodiesel yourselves.
I run my Escort on 100% bio with no probs at all. |

Yeah, been thinking about doing that.........have you done a breakdown of what the actual cost of your litre of biodiesel comes out at? |

Waste oil: free. Can be collected from any takeaway, chip shop etc.
Methanol: About 10 Pence.
Lye: 3 pence.
Fuel duty: 27.5 pence.
If you want to collect waste oil you need a permit from your local Environment Office. About £135 for 3 years.
Don't forget you need to register with HMRC so that you can pay your fuel duty. Don't forget to keep accurate records of how much you produce. |
