i have a 92 3.1td auto that is failing to start in park. the starter won't even turn or crank the engine, however put it in neutral and she goes first time. is this the starter motor or a poor connection somewhere?

Its not the starter, it will be the selector switch.
Someone more knowledgable on autos will be able to explain better.

It should start in Neutral or Park.

Like Marky says, it's the selector or detent switch. Don't have enough specific knowledge to tell you where to look but somebody will.

it could be a fault with the neutral start position switch on the side of the gearbox it probably need s cleaning can be taken off with care dismantled and cleaned fresh grease inside and reassembled
the contacts get seized up as the grease inside goes hard
