Been speaking to the old man, and....

Was talking about putting an lsd in the frontera, well he suggested a fiddle handbrake -- splitting the handbrake cable, and having 2 levers (interesting at mot but hey...) so if one wheel was spinning, pulling that brake and shunting the power over.

Anyone tried this or am I out on a limb here?  Sounds like a bleeding amazing idea for a cheap lsd / diff lock. Little bit of fabrication, but I think that the 2 cables join at the back of the lever...

Iron age traction control!  Laughing
Yes it works well.  With a bit of careful work the leavers can be make to keep the handbreak for MOT time.

Milners do do the hydrolic ones, but was looking for cable operated - going to have a look at the body and see if it's possible to fit 2 handbreaks, and a steel cover or something for MOT?? turn them into one level

haha - would get around the handbrake imbalance failure - just pull one lever a little more Wink

I'm told by a friend who used to do trials that it works very well - a lot of triallers use them as lockers and LSDs are not allowed in some of their catergorie.
It would probably take some practice and not be quite as convenient as an air locker but at a fraction of the price would do the same job and, if you're a bit stuck, who cares if it takes a little longer so long as you drive out of it?
It would also mean that more difficult obstacles wouldn't need as much attacking so risking less damage.
You've got me thinking now.

I just called my local mot place, and as long as both handles can be locked together for the mot, there is no issues. Locked together covers a piece of pipe dropped over both handles.

Need to have a good look at the mounting brackets for the handbrake, and then down to a scrappy to have a look at what's about. a mini one would dead easy to fit - and loads of length for the pull, but I supposed it's a look and see job really.

Been there - done that  Very Happy

I had two handbrake cables, so two handbrakes was an easy solution.
I've not had time to use them in anger yet though.

I've got the Milner levers in my other off-roader, they are on a separate pair of calipers - Range Rover ones ISTR, they aren't  powerfull enough. I think Isuzu's with disc brakes have small handbrake drums - they might not be up to it.

Are those hydrolic moglite, or cable ones? They look very much like metrol brake levers?
