My 1999 3.0 DOHC turbo-deisel was recently serviced by a local garage. One of the gearbox oil filters was fitted incorrectly, most of oil was lost during the drive back from the garage, the remainder was in a pool under the car after it had been parked in the driveway.

The garage admitted it was their fault and obviously replaced the filter and oil.

Since that time the vehicle requires about 20 seconds of cranking on the starter (until the oil pressure rises) before it will fire. I understand there is a circuit that prevents starting if there is no oil pressure, it would seem that this is causing the slow start.

The vehicle had now been back to the garage three times but the problem persists, they do not seem to be getting much help from Isuzu UK.

Any information on how the system works, what might be causing the problem or how to fix it would be much appreciated.

If trooper was ok before engine service, did they use genuine filters as some cheap pattern filters have been known to cause problems.

Are you sure it was Gearox oil that was leaking and not engine oil?, if it was engine oil then there may be some engine damage causing slow oil pressure build up, which will not give the ECU a signal till pressure has built up and it's safe for engine to start, get back to the garage and see if they will at least have a look at it for you but you may have a job proving that fault was not there before they worked on it.

Thanks for the message.

Yup, my mistake - should have read "engine oil."

Agree with your diagnosis. Vehicle now booked in at an Isuzu garage in the New Year to get it sorted out.

Hi, wonder if anyone can help with this one?
My MY2000 TID 3.0 (with 32000 miles on) was driving along quite happily on New Year's Day coming back from Belgium loaded with goodies, pulled in for diesel as normal; got back in and went to start - zilch. Turns over on starter, all lights etc. work, but absolutely nothing. Hasn't started since - had to be trailered back to the UK and there it sits. Dealer is as puzzled as we are - no fault codes showing on TECH2, all appears normal. Oil pressure there, cam and crank signals there, but no fuel seems to be getting through. No RPM shown on cranking on TECH2.
Where do we go from here? Dealer suggests a new ECU at nearly £1000 but as it's only 2 months out of warranty, I'm not that happy.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Finally got the beast moving again!!!
Turned out the cambelt had jumped a tooth and this immobilized the engine. Thing is, the timing belt isn't due for changing until 60000 miles or 10years, not 32000 and 3 years. Is this problem going to recur?
