Just thought I'd throw a question at you experts out there.
Our Trooper is very sick again, and has had a new alternator a few weeks ago, and is now showing signs of water in the oil. It had a engine rebuild last year.
We are rapidly losing faith in it and have started to look at a new vehicle.
I have test driven the old style L200 warrier, the new L200, and the Rodeo (3.0).
I hated the old style L200, but my husband keeps pointing out the value for money!!! Confused

The other 2 both drove well.
Hubby is is understandably concerned about the Isuzu engine, and wants reassurances it won't blow up! As it's a completely different engine, it shouldn't.....should it! Shocked

Has anyone else out there compared the 2 pick ups?
Any help gratefully received.

The 3.0TD engine in the new Rodeo is actually based on the old Isuzu 2.8TD engine, which was one of the most solid, reliable diesel engines ever to have been put into production. It bears absolutely no resemblance to the 3.0DT engine found in the Trooper, and Isuzu have gone to great lengths to try and distance the rodeo from the Trooper engine. I would have absolutely no qualms buying a 3.0 Rodeo, and Ive been a nervous 3.0 Trooper owner for over 3 years now.

I would say Rodeo ... i have heard bad press surrounding the new L200's. Just niggles surrounding lack of power, gearbox worries and clutch problems! The same can be said for the navara's. Rolling Eyes

I believe the new L200s were rushed out into the showrooms, and as a result have already had several recall notices issued.

Maybe they will take the heat off the 3.0 motors... every garage I tried to part-ex my old blue one into chirped up with "ooo, not sure about these - they are trouble"

I would go for the Isuzu. Iv'e heard of engine trouble on Mitsubishi's.

If your'e looking to buy new, in Jan 07 new facelift model with 2.5 and 3.0 common rail engines are released I think. Question

Why oh why do they do the common rail, i so prefer the old style engines .

I drive a TF, the pick up from Isuzu before the Rodeo. Having just driven a almost new L200 for a week I would never choose one over an Isuzu. If you want something that drives like a car, get a car or a L200.

Gearing wrong so it goes quicker, but I got 22.5mpg rather than over 30 mpg from the Isuzu.
Warning lights kept coming on and it thought it was in 4wd when it was not.
Put anything in the back and it handling goes all wrong, my TF drives better with half a ton in the back, not worse.
The seats in the L200 are not comfortable, and about 15cm leg room in the back if the drivers seat is in a driving position.

I did like driving the L200, but I was pleased to get my Isuzu back. The L200 looks like a very city pointless 4x4 rather than a real work horse. I think J. Clarkson would phrase it, very gay!
