Recently
when starting the trooper (3.0td) it has taken awhile to start (numerous threads about this) however, this seems much better and quicker to start if i turn the temp down to coolest setting? This also has the effect of dropping the revs...now i realise that this may be a coincidence and the temp setting has nothing to do with the troops ability to start but i thought i would mention it Laughing

This will be due to the "Ceramic Heater" in the cab (under the dashboard). This presents a large load on the battery etc and so the starter will be sharing battery power with the heater, also the revs raising are due to the car increasing revs slightly to ensure the alternator can generate enough voltage/current to keep the battery topped up.

the ceramic heater shouldn`t operate untill the glow plugs switch off which is about 30 seconds after the engine startsso if this is working properly then the load is from somewhere else do you have the climate control on auto Question

in theory the faster you can spin the 3.0l engine the quicker it should start due to the pumps pumping the oil pressure quicker so if you have a load on it it could well slow it down a bit.

Thanks for the replies...it does sound as though you may be able to improve (if only slightly)
the starting of the trooper if you do turn down the heating setting to coolest!!
Ill carry on using this approach through a cold spell to see if there is any continued improvement in starting Laughing
