If you run any vehicle without a thermostat in it does it change the fuel comsumption noticeably. Found out today that my other Transit has no thermo in it and part of the cooling system had been bypassed. I knew the heater matrix was shot so ordered a new one, went to fit it and found an interesting array of cut hoses joined together. Must try and get heat as the forecast is 4c next week.

No, it will increase the warm up time though.
If anything a very slight increase in fuel comsumption due to the lower combustion temp... _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

I took my sticky stat out and i think i have lost quite a few mpg, but this coincides with winter and darkness so it could be the heater fan and lights _________________ |

At least in petrolengines with fuel injection or computer control...
when the temp sender reads colder temperatures, it will increase the amount of fuel going to the injectors. so yes, higher consumption. it's harder on the engine too, get a stat. |

I know... but every time I have had five mins to put the new one in its been pouring with rain! Plus I have still to switch the rad over and with the stat in place it starts cooking itself on the hills _________________ Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE | 265/65R18 BF Goodrich AT LTM No.60
