We have a 3litre TD 1999 Isuzu Trooper. It has a single battery. We find it very hard to start on cold mornings. If it is mild, there are no problems. We had similar problems last year so had a new battery fitted. We are still experiencing the same problems this winter. Can we fit a bigger/more powerful battery? ( It fires immediately when we jump it from a leisure battery I use to power the electric fencing for the horse)

Are you using 5W30 oil?

Also on a 3.0 they should have two batteries - one either side of the engine.... has one been taken off at some point?

I don't know if you know, forgive me if you do, a leisure battery, won't last long starting cars.

Thanks to all who have replied - appreciated.

Just to confirm the vehicle we have was originally imported from Ireland.  I has a single battery although looking at the engine compartment again, there is a lot of space in the compartment over the n/s wheel arch.  There are also vacant screw holes to fit 'something' (e.g. like a mounting for a battery I'd guess).  Whether it originally would have had 2 batts I don't know.

The current battery has a cold cranking amp rating (SAE) of 670 and an Amp Hours Capacity rating of 95.  Would there be any value in going higher than that?  I think I have seen batteries that go up to 110Ah but I am not sure.  Any thoughts?

As a side topic, we are going to 'downsize' (smaller 4x4) in the near future so are planning to sell this one.  Any thoughts on best forum to advertise a Trooper?  Anyone ever used the ITOCUK for this?  I see the classifieds section is empty.

Cheers all.  This is a great forum.

Probably best to list here alongside Autotrader (online and paper versions)

Always best to get the biggest capacity you can find in that casing size, theres no such thing as too big a battery only too small.
