Hi Guys

3.1TD DUTY with a leaky fuel tank, just replace the two fuel lines and the one breather that come from the tank, I had to take the tank off to get at everything, the tank is quite rusty on the outside but didn't look too far gone.

The top of the tank was a little damp but I thought this was from the leaking fuel lines, cleaned everyrhing off and replaced the tank two tank hoses, put it all back on again and started it up to check for leaks from the fuel lines that I could see......pipes were fine but there was a couple of runs of fuel coming from the top of the tank onto the seam.......are Izuzu tanks known for rusting away and if so how much is a new one? Shocked

Thanks in advance guys

Cheers
Mark

They are prone to it... New ones are quite dear. Do you not think it could be repaired then painted up?

Might be worth looking as breakers....

Cheers for the reply Matski, I'm going to check out the local breakers today.

I found a company on the net selling new tanks for £180 + vat......not that cheap really.

I'll see if I can repair it but from my motorcycle days I know it can be hit and miss trying to repair fuel tanks.......my saving grace is it seems to be coming from the top of the tank rather than underneath.

Hopefully the breakers will come up trumps Very Happy

Got my tank off and cleaned it up, found the leak at the neck of larger metal pipe that goes into the top of the tank (just on the bend), rust had got a hold and it had two small holes in it.

Thought I'd have a go at a repair with araldite around the base of the pipe then wound some solder tight around the metal tube topped off with more araldite then once hard I covered the whole area with some super sealer which we use at work called 'sikaflex'...wonderfull stuff.

Will be fitting the tank back on Wed night to see if its any good Smile
