My neighbour has a 4.0litre 98 Grand Cherokee, his fob will unlock the doors but then when u open a door the alarm just keeps going off and then u can't start it, u can then lock the doors, then open them and same thing happens over and over again.
any ideas? _________________ Brand New Land Cruiser

Sounds like the alarm control box is buggered. Depending on the make it could be a number of issues. If it is a factory fitted it is best to contact a local dealer for advice. If you tinker with the wrong wire you could end up double buggered and shafted by the dealer to put it right.

Our 01 Cherokee was a swine for alarm problems, it was so bloody sensitive it used to go off if a sparrow farted within twenty feet of it, it had all sorts of bits replaced under warranty and still used to pee the neighbours off (not that we were bothered, drug dealing scumbags that they were) _________________ Phil

Another thought, as this one dragged me out of bed early one evening (I am a night shift guy)...... The Mrs. couldn't get the Grand Cherokee to start while trying to leave the shopping center to come home one evening and the lights were flashing etc. (only reason the horn wasn't tooting is she has worn it out! )
I arrived on the scene to find she was trying to start the car, and disable the alarm with the bloody valet key..... after we stuck a 'real' one in the ignition, the alarm stopped and she started right up. It looks as if someone had entered the rear drivers side passenger door (as it often will not lock with all of the others) and had set off the alarm and the only way to stop it sometimes (no the key FOB didn't work this time) is by turning the key to the run position, but it must NOT be a valet key.
Dunno if that helps someone in future, maybe it'll allow someone to continue with their beauty sleep. _________________ 3.2L DOHC Petrol
