And the question was

Quote:
My 92 3.1TD Bighorn seems to always glow for the same length of time no matter what the outside temp.  As well, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when the fast warm up button speeds the idle up.  I'm wondering if the temp sensor for my glow plug system is not working properly?  Any suggestions are apprecited.

Thanks

If the engine is warm, just spin it over the glows still on, it won't damage them Wink

I removed the guts of the butterfly valve in the exhaust and unplugged the vacuum line to the butterfly valve in the intake so I have no restriction.  Even when the truck sat out in about -6C for most of a day, the glow plugs only stayed on for about 5 secs and it smoked quite a bit on start up.  So my question is whether the sensor for the glow plugs is knackered?

Mine does similar.

The glow plugs do continue glowing for a few seconds after the light goes off though.

I tend to lett the light go out, switch ign off and back on again, let the light go off, then do it again for a third "glow period" and then start.  Ususally prevents any smoky starts.  Give it a try, if it makes no difference, you may have a duff plug.
