Hi I am new to this site

Any suggestions

I’ve got a trooper 3.0 (I Know!!!!) that on first start on morning wont rav, just sits on 6000 rpm, with check eng light flashing, blue smoke as you would expect form fuel problems,

Dose this for 2 mins plus then revs clear and is then fine for restart for rest of day.

Is there something designed to choke the air or exhaust on cold start to create excess fuel that may be gamming on.

Or is this lightly to be electrics

6000 RPM or 600 RPM ???

If it's a 3.0 have you called isuzu to make sure that all the recalls have been done (if not do it pronto - there's a huge amount of information in the 'recalls' section from the front page).

Blue smoke is oil. White is unburn diesel, black is overfuelling.

If it's leaking oil through the injectors (i think that's what it does) on the 3.0 it is common, and the engine self destructs - there is a recall which completly fixes the problem though. Worth checking first. If it's had all the recalls done it's got to be something else...

The injectors should be changed (by Isuzu for FREE) to the latest type regardless of whether the oil level was high! I would contact Isuzu directly and ask for proof of the recalls.

thanks criss I will Look back into the injectors.

however i would be supprised if the injectors have anything to do with a problem that only occores on first start up.

appart from the glow plugs that work with the ignision there is a second cold start switch (which i dont use) anyone know how this works and if this might be related.

hi, i have the old 3.1td and the cold start switch opperates a flap in the exaust , we dont use the switch coz the flaps jam with all the c**p build up in the exaust, if this happens you are well down on power and the rpm drop. these simptoms dont sort them selves out though as yours seem to mate, the 3.0 has the same thing but the flap is in the maifold(i think Question ) but the same thing applyes anyway............no it sounds like the recall work, i am no expert on the 3.0 but yours is doing the simptoms of others on hear, dont leave it too long mate coz if it gets any worse (that is if it is the recall stuff) the engine can self distruct and it is a new engine Shocked ring isuzu dxmedia advises as soon as just for peace of mind,    best of luck and let us know how you get on Wink

The cold start switch closes a flap in the exhaust - this makes the engine work harder and so warms up quicker.

Are you using 5W30 grade oil? If not then do an oil change as these engines MUST have 5W30 grade to run correctly. Secondly it may be worth having the glow plugs checked/replaced.

thanks

yes im on 5W30 chris as i had read this on this site pevorsly probs from you and it did at the time improve starting

will get back onto izusu today about recalls

its off road now with burnt out starter

for extra imformation i got a mix of water, clay, coal dust, and ash directly into turbo (last week) as the air fillter pipe had pulled off, clouds of whight smoke but keeped running, so turbo pos cause of problem as well.

have now got starter cheap enough to risk putting on even if eng going to pack in soon so will get it strate in for recall see if that helps.

If this has gone thru the turbo it could have caused damage inside the cylinder liners etc...

I Know don’t think there was enough for the hydraulic effect to bend rods as eng would have stalled.

The potential follow on damage means I don’t want to chuck cash @ the eng on probs that may or may not be related.
