These hoxes (which they are) are for a different reason - they take up bandwidth on networks. Won't effect you or me, but the ISP's loose a huge amount of network to the emails going forwards and backwards...

When I worked for Microsft we had one of those chain email letters come in and within a couple of hours it had taken the entire global company email network down as loads of stupid people sent it off to the requisite seven contacts, all the servers filled up and crashed.  I hate the damn things.
