Take the auto hub off, take off the locking plate (3 phillips screws), put a drift into the bearing adjuster and turn clockwise (tap the drift with a hammer) until it won't turn anymore (you might need to loosed to get the locking plate on), then put back together... As long at the bearing isn't completly shot that's all you need to go.
If you want to buy a bearing yourself, undo that adjuster and the bearing will fall out.
Oh you need to put in an axle stands and take the wheel off £100 sounds a little steep to be honest, unless it's the inner bearing ?? _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

Step by step
Take off the wheel, and put axle stands under the car.
14mm socket, and take off the ring of 6 bolts around the auto hub (don't worry nothing will ping off)
In the middle of the auto hub you'll see the end of the drive shaft. There's a 'c' clip holding the drive shaft on. If you wipe the grease out with a rag you'll see it. The best way I've found of getting this off is 2 small flat srew drivers in the open bit and prize it out.
Don't worry, getting that 'c' clip out is a git - if you've never done one before it will take you 10 mins of swearing.
Once you've got that clip off, pull the auto hub assembly forward and it will come off, then take of the bit behind with the teeth on it (all just slides off)
Behind that there's a plate with loads of holes in it and there should be 3 phillips screws, these WILL be tight, so get a really good fitting screw driver and hit the end with a hammer as your slowly trying to undo them. Once they start to turn they will come straight out.
Take off the plate with the holes in, flip a little screw driver behind it and it will pop off.
You can now see the wheel bearing adjuster.
Get something like a drift which will fit in one of the holes. Hit it round clickwise with a hammer until it doesn't move any more (this is the cheap and quick way of adjusting - it'll get you through an MOT). Put the locking plate back up, and you'll see that the 3 screw holes on the adjuster nearly line up with the holes, take the plate back off and loosen teh adjuster 1/50th of a turn so they line up.
Put the screws back in
Put that toothy thing back on, if you look at the inside bit it will only go on one way
Put the auto hub assembly back on - if you look closely you'll see that there's a locating pin on it
Put that clips back in, you'll need to pull the drive shaft forward (there's an M8 hole in the end of the drive shaft you can wind a bolt into and grab that with a pair of pliers)
Put the lid of the auto hub back on
Put the wheel back on.
all in all,
6 bolts to undo
1 'c' clip
3 screws
