Right, I have done the oil and filter and air filter change but got a few questions....
The old oil was a horrible jet black substance that resembled hammerite!!! filled up with fresh oil ran it a bit etc. checked the oil again after leaving it for an hour and its looking very black again?!?  Confused  I am thinking of doing a few miles then putting a flush through and changing it again but have been told by a few people not to use engine flush as it can cause damage?
Also how do i get the fuel filter off? Ran out of time on sunday to do it anyway but needs doing.

Craig

Fuel filter - just replied on the general forum. Oil will be very black in a diesel, if you've changed twice that'll be enough if it was REALLY bad, if it wasn't lumpy, then once change should do, just do the next change at 3K rather than 5K. Don't think you'll get that nice oily colour like  you do with a petrol - won't happen Very Happy

was planning on every 2-3k anyway as i get the oil very cheap!!
Does anybody have any knowledge of engine flushes? Think i was warned off them because it contains something that can damage seals in the engine? or is this just someone being OTT over it all?

If you want to flush it, change the oil then give it a quick run drop and put new in.

Buuuut the 3.1 is more or less the same engine as the 2.8 and the 2.8 is 3k. The only reason to exstend it would be to sell more cars.

The 3.1 has EGR's so should be worse on oil.

They are both hard on oil.

Have to agree, nothing wrong with regular servicing.

The main problem with engine flushes isn't so much damaging seals as it can loosen all sorts of crud that can then block up oilways and so cause engine damage.  I'd have to agree with the others and say take it out for a few good runs and then change the oil and filter again and then do the next couple of changes at fairly short intervals.  I got into the 3K oil cange habit with my MK1 and the new one gets pretty much the same, most of my mileage is done on trips over to my place in France and one round trip with the usual driving about down there is around the 2500 to 3000 mile mark so two trips would put it over.
