I think the figures all round are about 4-5mpg lower than the newer 2.5 version. I know somebody who covers 30-40 miles per day in a 3.0 rodeo with a mix of town and motorway - their motor is returning 33-35 mpg (auto box, gentle foot)

What are the old 2.5's like as I'm considering an old vauxhall Brava quad cab as a replacement for the troop and I wondered on fuel economy.  That said it'll probably end up with the 2.8 from my old MK1 in it!

The old 2.5's are flat as a botty cough! very underpowered and lacking in torque  Rolling Eyes  there are quite a few 4wd motors about with a 2.8 and these seem to be fine - could it be the 2.8 will drop straight in?

There's been conformtaion on this site that the 2.5 is a straight swap for the 2.8 I belive.

Yeah a stunning 76 bhp from the 2.5 BUT I have a 110K mile 2.8 sat in the garden just itching for a new home.  It was Jonkem thats done this http://www.itocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10999  so this is becoming a serious plan the more I look into it.  I reckon I could pick up a reasonable mid/late 90's runner for around a grand or go for something a bit older for less.  I reckon if I also bunged a FMIC on at the same time it would make a good healthy motor.
