|
|
Went to Kwik Fit last week and had the Aircon in my '93 Bighorn SE recharged as it was just blowing cool.
Normally I wouldn't trust non specialists to do this type or work. They did a vacuum test to check for leaks, charged it and added a dye (just in case). ! was pleasently supprised now keeping me nice and cool, even in this weather (shame we can't have the old stuff that really freezes you inside the car)
I don't know if it's nation wide but they are only charging £35 at the moment - got to be worth it even if just to keep the system going.
And NO, I don't work for Kwik Fit. |

I've bought loads of cars with inoperative aircon and in all but one case they've only needed re-gassing.
£35 is spectacularly cheap, though - well found!
For those that are unaware, the main reason for gas loss is inactivity. The rubber pipes are porous to the gas unless they are coated internally with an oil film. There is a small amount of oil, therefore, in the system which circulates with the gas to keep the pipes oily. Running the aircon about once a week - summer and winter - will keep the pipes oily and saves the cost of a recharge and greatly enhances the resale value of the vehicle. |

At £35 I should take mine in as when the expensive French grease monkey changed my alternator he let all the magic smoke out of the A/C system. _________________ Phil

I think they also do a test and if they dont improve the temperature of the air coming out of the vents by so many degrees then they dont charge you. |

You will never see any leaks, best people to try if you can find them are agricultural fitters who have access to aircon equipment. Specialised equipment is needed, when I used to do the systems we had gas sniffers to find the leaks. I know people local to me who have the equipment to test and recharge, if anyone wants to pm me I will gladly put them in contact with the local fitters to me |
