I just got my insurance renewal through - its insane!
Im 35 and live in Warrington WA3, have 8 years NCB, and comp insurance on a Bighorn 3.1TD auto LWB is £765 - how do they justify it?
My last car was a Merc C180 and that only cost me £500. How do they justify such a stupid high price on a slower, less flashy and cheaper car?
I'm seriously considering selling the Bighorn - anyone got any suggestions who could get me some cheaper insurance (I'm with Carole Nash at the mo)? _________________ Global Warming is as real today as a Flat Earth was 500 years ago - Just call me Galileo!! |

Tried the online Tesco one - Firstly it didn't think that there was ever a Bighorn with a Auto and a Diesel engine made (so I chose a Trooper) Then it wanted a specific Thatcham approved security device - so I picked one - and it still came out at £748!
Grrrrr - I think its going on to the Auto trader website!!
What's one of these worth anyway?
Bighorn 3.1 TD Lotus LWB Auto 1994, 49k, Full MOT and receipts for a new brake system!
I'm guessing £5500.
What do u think? _________________ Global Warming is as real today as a Flat Earth was 500 years ago - Just call me Galileo!! |

Try Adrian Flux, they are a big broker with specialist divisions that deal in all sorts of things from 4x4's to Yanks. I have my Chevy insured with them and when I bought my Trooper they allowed me to mirror the NCB on my truck onto my Trooper so a 91 Mk 1 2.8TD costs me less than £250 fully comp to insure. I'm 38 with about the same no claims and live up in Rossendale in Lancs. OK mine is only worth £1400 so yours will be more to insure but it's gotta be worth a call. They even insure my house for me after my previous insurer wanted me to bend over and take it like a man come renewal time after some thieveing b*****d chucked a rock through a window and burgled me, they came up with a much better quote. They are also happy to discuss performance modifications etc sensibly and are one of the few companies that will cover Nitrous Oxide installations! http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/ I can't reccomend them highly enough! _________________ Phil

Yo! Privilege (Direct Line) about £250 fully comp with full no-claims, but I could have got it even cheaper with Churchill. A lot of it is to do with post code however, mine is SO41 one of the cheapest zones in the country. _________________ 1999 Cougar with a NICE motor..

I am afraid it is because your vehicle is an import. Ask for a quote on a UK car and be surprised at the difference.
I was looking at a 1990 Bighorn last month and they wanted £500 for insurance. My UK spec one was £280 last year. |

That certainly used to be the case 3 or 4 years ago, but now for example, Bighorn is listed alongside Trooper on many on-line insurance sites with no price penalty. There is one major difference however, many sites do not recognise the designation "Auto" when asking for manual or auto configuration. Select manual and get a quote. I checked this with Privilege and they said it's due to site not being updated with this info. No problems.
Some companies, it's true, will either not quote for an import or ask you to ring them (when presumably you get the "silly" quote.
I believe this all started when the urban myth about imports having "different parts" spread. We established then that Shoguns and Pajeros, for example, were built on the same line using the same parts with minor differences on trim and lighting configuration. If you persevere you will find a company to insure your import at a reasonable price. After all, they are all "imports" aren't they? The Bighorn, incidentally, came out cheaper to insure than the Pajero. What's all that about???? _________________ 1999 Cougar with a NICE motor..

The ITOCUK has worked together with 2Gether FS to produce an extremely competitive scheme for club members ...
Please give them a call : 01945 585322
You will need to quote the reference you were provided with when you completed the 'join the club' form from the front of the club website : http://www.itocuk.co.uk/applytojoin.htm

I went to the Adrian Flux site and after sending them an email got a price back of ...
£445.25 - thats over a £300 saving! - well chuffed!
Having said that, I also went around some car dealers to ask about part ex of the Bighorn with a Merc A class and none of them wanted my Bighorn - the only one who would consider a deal wanted to give me £3000 for the car.
The moral seems to be buy an import because you want it, and live with the consiquences (bet that's mis spellt!)
Thank's to Adrian Flux I am keeping my bighorn for a long time! _________________ Global Warming is as real today as a Flat Earth was 500 years ago - Just call me Galileo!! |

If you are using the bighorn as a second vehicle then it might be worth giving ROADSURE a try, they were very good and quoted me £194 fully comp but they don't do a NCB scheme. |

I've heard that Esure are good. The only problem is they'll think it's because of the Michael Winner adverts and do more of them! Noooooo!
Tesco seem to use Direct Line's systems. I've changed to Tesco from Direct Line and am struggling to see the difference (other than price). All the documentation is exactly the same!
Oh, I don't yet have a Trooper though. S'pose I'd better start getting some quotes...

i found that a import is really expansive, and the excuses i got are that the parts are more expensive, why does that mean that my insurance doubles?????

Hi People
just got my insurance today from privilage at a cost of £360 fully comp
for my 3.1 td 1994 troop citation, 5yrs NCB protected NCB. I also
have 3 penalty points on my licence so overall am pleased at that cost
compared to many others I have tried with a saving of over £200 + so
privilage got my money.
even £360 is to much but Im a tight git hehe. |
