Just had a quote...they can get into the £200s with just me, but as soon as you put the little miss (aged 24) on its £600+.
Best I got last year was Bell Insurance. Will have to go through the whole excercise again soon. _________________ '98S reg Irish Trooper 3.0DT Citation (LWB 7seat)

Just renewed my insurance with the club scheme, got through on the phone immediately and they called me back after saying their advisers were busy straight away, saved £130 on the Adrian Flux price and they are using the same underwriters the documents arrived the day after. Good service wonder if they will be as good at renewal time |
Renewal time and no the service has gone downhill in a big way, last year I had insurance with them fo a caravan, 2 vehicles and public liability. after 3 requests for someone to call about the liability insurance, it's lapsed. the caravan insurance also lapsed ( no reminder sent) and after the fiasco on the phone today to them I will be canceling my remaining policies and taking a financial loss just to get rid. Very disappointed _________________ 3.0 LWB Just playing at it

Didn't really want my first post back on here for a long time to be negative but regretfully this is what it has to be.
I got my renewal letter from Gary in good time but to my astonishment, the premium this year was £157.00 higher than last year's premium with the same insurer (Highway) and no change of circumstances and 9 years protected NCB.
The letter went on to say that however, they had found me a better quote at a mere £100 more expensive than last year - with the same Insurer! How the hell does that work?
I don't have the health to banter on the phone, oxygen is a precious commodity to me so I went with Adrian Flux instead (who had proactively phoned me as they had my details on file) at a substantial saving over last year's premium and some cool bolt ons as well, all mods declared and limited mileage. (Before you ask, no I did not tell them what 2Gether quote was.)
Regretfully, this action on my part didn't sit too well with Gary, as he phoned me today and went into a fairly high dudgeon when I told him what I'd done, of course, I didn't realise at that particular time that as the 'customer' I had very few rights, barring the right to only reinsure with 2Gether of course.
I tried to explain that his quote was so high that I couldn't see the point in 'bartering', besides why is it that the first question they ask you is "how much did so and so quote you?" There's no skill in that, simply underbidding your competition, any monkey could do that. If I am a regular customer, you do me a deal based on last year's premium, the state of the market, and my driving record and I will always be as loyal as possible but please don't increase my premium by 40% and expect a pat on the back and my undying loyalty and most importantly, don't ever put the phone down on me when I am simply explaining why I did what I did you ignorant git.
When the tail starts to wag the dog, it's time to quit.
Finally, It would be fair to say that 2Gether brokers have always done OK by me in the past which is why I have parted with yearly premiums to them - and this year if something went wrong in the office and I got the wrong quote, fair enough, there's always my next year's business to be had, but now not a chance, ever again. The final straw for him I think, was that I had also not renewed the breakdown insurance, obviously a capital offence.
Yes Adrian Flux is an impersonal service and I may not renew with them next year either, but to have the phone slammed down on you after 5 years of business, I would suggest not the best way forward for a 'Club Scheme'.
By the way, for anyone that doesn't know me, I am 65 years old, not a 'whippersnapper' and as I am medically unfit for work and have almost zero income, every penny is vital.
Sorry for the long post, and Simon may well not permit it as 2Gether are a kind of 'partner' to this site, but I will NOT be treated as a second class citizen at a time when any money i have available to spend is so hard to come by. _________________ 1999 Cougar with a NICE motor..

Just tried these guys and they wanted £800 for the year, bit odd as I have never had any convictions or speeding, garaged, full alarm, 10 years no claims + advanced driving course and a full set of bells and whistles, direct line did £380 and that was online without any sign of a haggle.
Oh well, guess it does not work for everyone. |

fraid to say I think they dont want the business, Twice spent time filling out the forms only to be told they can't
quote online (said it had some mods) and that somebody would call. No one ever did.
filled in a form for Adian Flux they quoted then called me back and I ended up paying £150 less than on-line quote
including off-road insurance, flux recovery, etc etc. _________________ aka x66dag

My question is.... if I have an accident(all-be-it a boy racer bangs into me in a carpark and i get the blame) and my current insurers have to pay out, what has that got anything to do with new insurers? Why does that add on a premium to a new insurance for a different vehicle 3 years later. Its been paid!! Why do I have to continue paying?

That's an easy one to answer Andy ...
the broker / agent / insurance specialist doesn't determine the factors that are used to assess your insurance 'risk'.
Insurance is all about gambling - for both the underwriter, who, ultimately covers the risk, and the customer who needs to be insured.
The underwriter applies MANY factors to a case in order to derive a premium, including 'propensity ratings' - this is a really grey area, but basically looks at factors about an individual in order to determine an appropriate fee.
This could be anything from 'how likely are people to make a claim if they live in a particular post-code area?' to 'how likely is somebody going to make a claim if they've already been involved in an accident?' - type of vehicle, age/experience of driver, etc etc And, perhaps significantly here - the claims records for a particular vehicle.
The person advising / selling the underwriter's products will be allowed a particular mark-up - don't forget, they are a business and need to make money - how much they can negotiate is determined by how little they are prepared to make on a sale - not forgetting all the underlying costs they need to cover, including staff, office, etc
So - the underwriter takes a gamble - "If we insure this person, what are the chances of us making a loss?" If they deem it higher than normal, then the premium will be higher and vice-versa
As already stated - the customer takes a gamble too ... "How likely am I going to be to make a claim this year and what cover would I need if I had an accident?"
If you are a good driver, and have a low value vehicle, you may feel that you could go for cheap, low-cover insurance with a very high excess - if you have a valuable car that you can't afford to replace, you'll probably go for fully-comp insurance.
Stupidly, some drivers take the risk just too far - and don't bother taking out insurance at all - which is both illegal AND makes our premiums higher
Rates don't go up on a whim ...
Why get two different quotes from the same underwriter?
More than likely, that'll be two slightly different products - extra 'voluntary' excess maybe, restricted mileage, second-car, etc etc there can be many reasons why the 'same' (similar) products from the same underwriter will have different costs.
What you would hope for is that the insurance broker / specialist will have the facilities to hand in order to be able to take you through the 'best' deal for you - not something that can be done on an automated renewal service.

So in order to get a financially better ( most relevant to what cover I want and can afford) product Ill need to speak personally to individual insurance company... using the automated service as a marker?
That makes sense.

Just got off the phone to a chap called Colin.
Very miserable and unhelpful.
Would not recommend - didn't seem too keen on wanting my custom.
Just my 2p worth. |
