True ... but on top of the last 30% is a percentage adder as tax - every time the oil price rises a few pence the overall cost rockets as the retailer needs to pay more tax  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad   that would be fuel duty on which we pay vat  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad

I've gone for OPEC because although the govt does have a stupid amount of tax on fuel there is no reason that the price of crude needs to be where it is - OPEC are just refusing to increase production as this way it just lines their pockets.  Funny when you think OPEC was created to actually stop this from happening

The reason oil prices are rising is not due to production, it's due to the banking issues in the US. People (talking backing investors) don't want their money in property any more, so they are buying up oil stocks - which is causing the price to rise. It's nothing to do with percieved oil shortatges or enviromental issues.

the oil prices are baced on speculation in the market so far. the us have asked for an increace in oil production but this has been declined because the countrys that are producing the oil would be mad to do such a thing. if there is a shortage there is a higher value on the product .the market got wind of this and ofcourse, have forced the price up. $200 a barrel by xmas is not un realistic. $5 in a week @135 today. thats got to be 1.30-1.32 a litre Shocked wont see this till 3 or 4 days time . scary stuff Shocked . as mentioned above, the govenment is still getting 17.5% vat on the total price  + the duty which is more than 60% so they are laughing as we are paying Twisted Evil

Duty is a fixed amount per litre BUT you've got VAT on top of that and that is a percentage.  Petrol retailers arenb't to blame as the forecourt makes something like 8p a litre, its the oil companies and opec screwing us over along with a weak dollar and investors heading to oil as the global economy looks shaky.

But we are still paying 17.5% on the fixed rate and the cost of the fuel.
