I hope someone can help me. I have a 1993 Bighorn Automatic. The starter inhibitor has become too enthusiastic, with the result that it often won't start at all - though it eventually starts after moving the gear selector around. Can someone please tell me how I can disable the inhibitor?
Many thanks |

you really dont want to disable it,its there for a reason,i would really advise against it.................so the car cant be started in gear and cause accidents
i cant see a new inhibator switch costing that much, even if they do,you can get one form a scrapyard,on most gearboxes its just a switch a little bit bigger than a reversing light switch _________________ '92 2.8TD SWB TROOPER.............SOLD

Thanks for the responses. In an ideal world I agree I wouldn't want to disable the inhibitor, but if it's a choice between not starting at all or the risk of occasionally starting in gear, I've already decided which I'd prefer!
The best solution will be to fix or replace it, so I'll follow up Dylan's links and see what happens. |

Here's an update which may help others in future:
The switch unit is electronic. In the end I had to get a new one shipped in from Japan. In the meantime, while I was waiting for the part to arrive, I was stranded in London where it simply refused to start at all. A nice guy from the AA came to have a look, and solved the problem temporarily simply by connecting a lead from the battery terminal to the starter - inhibitor circumvented! You learn something new each day.
The new selector switch has now been fitted and all is well again. |

G'day from Australia.
I have a 98 Jackaroo (same as Isuzu Trooper) and having an inhibitor switch problem.
For the past 4 months have been able to start normally-or sometimes by jiggling the auto transmission lever back and forwards-no however will not start at all-just want to be able to disable the unit to get car started to get to mechanic/spare parts-I'm in a remote location and therefore towing is not an option.
Any help HUGELY appreciated.
Thanks

Would you be able to explain how to do that? It may be enough for me to get to town.
Thank you.
