Hi all,
Got an overheating problem, damn thing goes near on into the red when underload normaly on a gradient, cant get no heat out of the heater though just seems to blow cool air Have flushed it through over a couple of hours but still no different Could it be the water pump or just the thermostat? Would taking the thermostat out highlite the problem, or cause any problems ?
Cheers

If the stat was jammed open it would take an age to heat up, if it was closed youd never get heat to your interiour heater.
Try taking the stat out and, as you say, see if it makes a difference to the running.
I take it you've jet washed the rad down on both sides after Kirton? _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

hi mark, if youre gonna be taking hoses of to remove stat it might be worth taking rad out aswell and give it a proper wash, took mine out on saturday, it took 15 mins to get water running through the fins to come out clean and i'd already washed out 3 times previously whilst it was fitted to the car, 1st time was at yours on the way home from devils pit.
have you checked to see if the viscous coupling still works properly, could stop mine with 1 finger even with temp gauge in the red. _________________ Gary

5 mins to whip the stat out, if the heater isnt working it sounds culprit.
Check the top and bottom rad hoses when its hot to see if one is cold _________________ |

Also check the condition of the rad itself, mine overheated on hills and over 70mph, turned out half the fins had rotted away! _________________ Phil

Well i finally got around to removing the thermostat a couple of weekes ago and yes it seems to have settled down now, no more overheating! Strange though that when i put the thermostat in hot water it seems to work
So my question is now, would there be any long term issues with having no thermostat fitted? I cant think of any, how about you?
Cheers

Yep, come cold weather it'll take longer to heat up and so cause more engine wear, a stat is less than a fiver so not worth running without one IMO. It may also be masking another problem like a duff rad. _________________ Phil

The rads in pretty good condition, less than 18 months old at a guess!
I just dont understand why its fine without it yet over heats with it, yet in hot water it seems to work
Will bung a new one in and see what happens
Cheers

It could just be opening wrong, from memory the 2.8 stat starts to open at 82c and is fully open at 95c, if its not open till the water is boiling then bingo _________________ |
