I also wouldn't trust the grumpy old man who wanted to put a 2.6 on a computer to not blame the first thing he saw.

The mk1 toppers aren't renound for tech2 or ODBC.

My first thought would have been a plug or badly worn ht lead as you mentioned earlier Chris.

this has puzzled me in some ways. if it was a plug or lead it would affect both petrol and gass but valves? if they were not shutting compleatly the lpg would have to backfire. got to, they have to be just right. are you shore its even running on lpg? timing has to be retarded to run on lpg because of the slower burn time. if you moved the distributor when on lpg and running you would get a bang out the back?  strange, maybe a leaking valve stops.................... no its a mistory.  how many miles was it on the clock?

can i ask how much you paid for the lpg system? as a rule of thumb you must have a molti point lpg system not a single point one as they are rubbish and old now. in the uk you dont spend less than £2000. how old is the 4x4? 2.6 is the mark1 isnt it? did they have hardened valve seats? what petrol have you been using over there?

The conversion forces you to start the vehicle on petrol and wont let you switch to gas for 5mins a bit of a pain if you have little petrol!! also on long drives it was advised to me to switch to petrol every now and then.

But speaking to the mechanic at the gaurage (gas pro!) he says gas on any vehicle is no good. For example he said that most fords when converted to gas burn out their valvs in 15000/20000km

I am no expert but from my experances and from what iv been told i will be getting the gas kit removed!  ASAP!!

Maybe one of you guys would like to buy it????  Very Happy

Hello Everybody
My update for those who are interested is: New exhaust valves, new inlet valves, the valve seats re cut, head skimed, new stem seals, head gasket and every thing else you would expect. All for the unbelivable price of 480 LEVA thats 200 POUNDS amazing!!

Anyway its running much better, he showed me the old valves and the small ones were all black where they should be sealing and he said that the valve seats were the real cause of the problem. I think he was saying that they weren't hardend.

But even now i still have a small problem. Its running fine very fast and very powerfull but still on long drives you get fumes that sting your eyes!!

Dose anyone know what this could be?  I've checked its got no lamba sensor, its to early for that but has got fuel injection and electric ingition etc

Whats your opinion?

wow thats cheap for all that Shocked must still be running rich which my have given you problems in the first place. is the air filter clean and dry mate? the sencer in the air intake on some motors can be cleaned up. if it is reading the wrong amout of air (as in more than there is ) it will strengthan the mixture to match the amount of air. if the air is not presant in the amounts the sencer is showing the result would be a rich mix.

just read it again Shocked stings your eyes when driving Shocked so you are getting vaper in to the cab? check the gaskets around the inlet and exaust for wholes ect. lpg leak my do this. make shore all your pipe seals are ok. give her a run ,come back and pop the bonnet with the engine still running and (this sounds silly) get your head over the engine to see if you can smell the same smell. rev the engine and watch all the gaskets and seals to see if there is smoke/vaper and strong smells around the engine bay.
running out of idears.  what does eveyone elce think?
