But it's iminent (isn't he a white American rapper? ? )
Any hints/tips/advice/offers of assitance welcome
The (current, but ever-growing) list looks something like this. .
Oil, fuel and air filter change (Milners methinks)
Engine, 'box and diff oil changes (all 10W40 semisynth iirc? ?)
Coolant change
Replace handbrake cable (£50!! )
Replace the (broken) Y-piece for the windscreen washers (any part number/where to buy info?)
Replace both batteries (Exide ones at about £70 each seem de rigeur. . . opinions please?)
Alternator change (been quoted £98+ vat and £2.95 delivery for 100% new. . .is this good?)
Complete exhaust (been thinking of getting hold of the (exhaust) pipe that bolts to the turbo and getting a mate to weld me up a 3" short 'system'. . . any info on the pipe that bolts to the turbo appreciated - a pic of the routing of a standard system would be cool too )
Replace 2 'fanbelts' _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

It's started. . .
Alternator £120 delivered
Battery £75 delivered
Glow plugs, filter kit, belts, sump plug and washer £81 delivered (Milners)
All should be here tomorrow
And I scored a 'get me by' set of (steel) wheels and decent (apparently) tyres on eebuygum. . tyres are not ideal at 225/75/16 but the set of 4 cost me a tenner and will cost me £15 to collect (in diesel).
Will give me a chance to get the standard wheels off and refurb them for next year
Vx for oil, not sure on exhaust yet _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

the altonator price is good mate. what amp is it? mine was a 50amp stock and replaced with the same as it was all i could afford at the time.lots of people on hear change for 80amp. i only have one battory so 50amps seems to do the job but may not be up to it when 2 battorys are involved _________________ presumption is the mother of all f**kups |

Dunno about the alternator output, sorry. . . just gave them the details (including reg no.) and they chose the right unit (diesel Trooper with aircon).
Will post when it's here
Opted for a single battery 72a/h 680CCA 278 MM x 175 MM x 190 MM weighing in at a hefty 20.9 KG. . .
Needed to save a wee bit of dosh wherever possible this time round
Exhaust ordered from cats direct. . £75 inc. delivery for the middle and rear sections including all gaskets and hangers.
It's only a budget 12month warranty job but I want to make something much nicer up over winter if I can so I don't care if it only lasts a year.
Oil syringe ordered too. . .
Just need to get it running again (real dead battery since my darling son left the interior light on and we didn't notice for a good 12 hours) and we'll chip off to Vx for oil and that wee Y-piece for the windscreen washers.
Seen a Mazda one on egay but it won't clip to the bonnet and that'll bug me a little _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

And so it starts. . .
Will have to email Hillmart for the alternator output, there's no badges/stickers whatsoever.
Battery's fitted and air filter is in (thought I'd get the tricky stuff out of the way first).
Had a look at where the alternator lives and it looks a complete PITA to do!!!!
Is it not as bad as it looks?
Any helpful snippets of info to save my teetering sanity? _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

it looks worse than it is Take off the idler and it's quite easy to get too.
If you've aircon though you'll have a few more problems. _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

I have aircon
On the output question. . Hillmart just got back to me and said it's an 80amp unit.
Chuffed tbh, total bargain for £118 imo. _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

Easiest way then is to take the aircon pump off and have it re-gassed afterwards _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

Needs re-gassing anyway I think.
Is that seriously an 'easy' option?
Aren't there any ramifications with regard to the a/c (aside from regassing)? _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

I've got an aircon pump on the MU, and pulling the pump off is the easy option (had the alternator off a couple of tims on it)- just getting that 14mm bolt off at the bottom of the pump next to the turbo can be a bit of a PITA.
Going in from the bottom would be a nightmare... _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

Nice one... thanks for that
Hoping the weather will be ok tomorrow for a few hours so we can have a bash then (exhaust may be here by then too so we can take a peek at how rusty all the bolts are for that ) _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

Yup, dont get caught releasing the gas because It is ILLEGAL to vent the refrigerant into the environment. _________________ |

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a 'ramification'. . . in the form of one of the threads on the a/c compressor snapping off.
They look proper jerry built. .
Thread for that specific problem here _________________ '93 Trooper Duty 3.1TD |

dam it wish i see this post yesterday. done the alternator on mine (with aircon) you have to take the belts off of course but if you remove the viscu fan and shrouding, take the battory out ,this gives you more room. the power pump can be loosened and moved over. it is possable to remove the alternator with out taking the pump off why did i not read this and trust me i changed the alternator by undoing parts off it through the wheel arch. when its undone you can pull it forward and turn it anti clockwise. it is tight but it will clear the rad just. have to be carefull you dont knock the fins on the rad. i put hardbord down the back of it so this didnt happen. with it turned at right angles to its mount position you can pull it accross to the right and up out the motor. got the new one back in the same way. difficalt but possable without desturbing the power pump. _________________ presumption is the mother of all f**kups |
