Hi guys. I'm new here and hoping to get a little help.

I'm from a dealership specialising in American imports. We recently took a Rodeo in part exchange with the intention of selling it quickly. However, now that we have it, it has a coupld of small problems we'd like to fix before trying to sell it.

1. Someone has bypassed the ignition barrel and removed the switch from the rear of the barrel. Now, whether this has aver been stolen/recovered, I don't know. It is HPI clear. But either way, I need a complete igntion barrel/steering lock with a key and the wiring plug that goes to the rear. As this is a part exchange vehicle, we are obviously keen to keep costs down, so I'm trying to avoid main dealer prices...

2. The car has Air con, which looks factory fitted, but has an aftermarket switch to turn on the AC. - Odd?

3. The heater control is jammed in the central position. I think I need a complete new panel unless anyone can tell me any different?

Thanks in advance for any help on this one

i'd bite the bullet and go main dealer because any key will need coding to the vehicle if you get a different barrel.

aircon could have been an option on that vehicle but it meant you had to buy a new panel which incorporated the switch so someone may have found a kit and fitted it but didn't bother with the extra cost of the panel so they made their own switch.

the heater controls are cables so maybe one has jammed up, if you remove the glove box and look right you can see the cable and mechanisim

There doesn't seem to be an immobiliser on this vehicle, so coding a key isn't an issue. The last keeper has fitted an aftermarket type of ignition switch with a kind of locker key to activate. - I've managed to source a complete second had key/barrel/steering lock/switch for £50. Main dealer wanted £85 just for the barrel, without steering lock!

That's a strange set-up for the AC! Seems odd that Isuzu would have fitted all the AC system except the panel with on/off button!

Thanks for the heater control location. I'll take a look behind the glovebox to see what I can find.

It is a grey import. It came from Taiwan.

I've pulled out the heater control panel and the AC wires have been hardwired to the circuit board, and the heater control doesn't have a cable... In fact, it looks like it's never even had a mechanism for the heater dial!!! - What a strange vehicle!

I know in Australia a lot of cars have aftermarket air fitted as its often better than the factory systems so maybe thats also true in Taiwan.

on some models they do not have a heater in just what is called a "cooler/ventilator"  if you can see a owners handbook for an english one it will show you the operation of it ,,in my book it is on page 2-73

Quick update:-
I've got a new ignition switch/barrell/steering lock. Trying to fit it at the moment, but I'm a little bit stuck trying to remove the steering wheel. Has anyone removed a steering wheel from a Rodeo before? - I'm sure it's simple whan you know how.  Confused

Hi if its the rodeo model i am thnking of then there are two small holes behind the steering wheel that mount the airbag - once the air bag is undone - disconnect the battery for 20 minutes to discharge the airbag - then you can unplug it and put it out of the way - you will then find the steering wheel bolt- they may be torx screws
cheers
Steve

Thanks for all your help guys. Especially Jonathan63 who talked me through the removal of the steering wheel yesterday afternoon.  thumbright

For future reference, as stated above, there are two inspection holes either side of rear cover on the steering wheel. using a torch, you can see two metal clips either side that need pushing inwards, whilst gently pulling the front of the steering wheel centre pad. Do this either side and the centre pad/airbag assembly will come off leaving the single horn wire and aribag plug to be detatched. The horn wire simply unplugs, whilst the airbag plug has a safety latch that needs lifting before it can be unplugged. - No need to disconnect the battery, but you MUST make sure the ignition is in the OFF position.
Once the steering wheel centre pad is off, there is a 19mm bolt holding the wheel to the column. Once undone, you are supposed to use a puller to remove the steering wheel itself, but a bit of tugging and WD40 was enough to remove mine.

Once off, changing the ignition barrel was fairly easy.

Now it's all back together, does anyone want to buy a 2003 Isuzu Rodeo 3.0td? - £4200?  Very Happy
