Bought the filter kit from Milners and the fuel filter is nothing like what's on there.

The current filter is a DELPHI 496A and the top of the pump looks like this :

Looks like an after market primer pump and filter housing.

Is there a reason why somebody would do that?

Next question. . . how the hell do I find the right filter?

Done a google search for Delphi 496a and get a big fat zero  Crying or Very sad

If the manual primer pump isn't used for a long time, the rubber diafram perishes and you can't bleed the fuel system. Hence an aftermarket primer pump.

You could try ringing a motor factors with every number you can get off the filter and see if it will cross reference to anything?

Delphi stuff also goes under CAV & Lucas/CAV, I did a google search for CAV 496A & got a heap of responses, try that for starters, one outfit I looked at sold spares for canal boats, agricultural machinery places might also have them
