I downloaded picasa, for a free download it's excelent, have sharpened pic ect, and tried to reduce it, and managed to get it from 3.8 to 4.7mb Embarassed help!

I need to upload some pics to my website, my 3.2mp phone camera is fine, but a 7mp camera was used to take these pics and the website won't accept them Rolling Eyes

Would like to upload a small pic on here to Rolling Eyes

Is there a 'quality' setting when saving - if you lower this then you'll get a smaller image size. Also re-sizing the image itself will do the same, say from 1280x1024 > 800x600 will be a 30% ~ reduction in file size.

Just because software is free doesn't mean it's rubbish - it points out how rubbish a lot of 'payed for' software is though  Wink

i just use photo bucket, took some last year with a 10mp camera, then resized em and put them on here no trouble, my puter hates the new stuff on there tho, i use the old bulkloader cos it keeps crashing the puter
this was taken with the 10mp camera then resized

I use this Microsoft freebie for Windows XP MS download from here (about 520K bytes).

When installed it adds a 'Resize Pictures' option to the right-click shortcut menu.

By default it will make a copy of the original pic file, but you can reconfigure it if required.

I use the smallest size option 'Small (640 x 480)' to post on forums.

Example: 1.2MB .JPG file gets reduced to a 54KB .JPG file - I'm always impressed by the quality retained - but I'm no photo-phile!

Samples in this thread which are hosted on PhotoBucket.

Good for email too.

For web use you need to rez down to 72dpi from the standard 300dpi.

That will dramatically reduce the file size.
