A while ago, when i had my vee dub the forum decided to charge £10 per year for full access to the site, and if you didnt want to become a member there was a limited forum avaliable, they also vastly improved the forum pages at the same time...
I think that the £1/£10 is a great idea, as im sure most of us will have saved more than a tenner with the info on here. _________________ 1997 3.1 commercial, bit of a lift, big knobbly tyres and more dints than last weekend |

I think this is more than just a plea for money to cover the server, which is though at the heart and soul of the YD clubs.
But also a general fund raising plea to help through out, as Simon was saying about insurances and....

'YD Club fund' ... future fees, club gear, discount bar / food at club meets, money to allow me to take some time out to perform forum upgrades etc ... the list goes on. |

I Think you once gave a reason not to do this... but what about a yearly membership fee?
I know the Nissan/maverick club am in does this at £10per year just an idea...
And most peeps do say money well spent for the info they get, which enable em to fix things them self (or not via a MD) |
my4x4.co.uk did this, nearly every member walked. |
but quite simply we dont pay there wont be a club it carnt all go one way
yes some will walk but most off us wont
writing simon a check now for lifetime membership i get alot out off this club
and woud like to think we will still be here in years to come _________________ isuzu 3.0 about to be a 3.1 it is now

For the past few years we have been given money for club events for one was the marquee that blew away in a freak storm at JAE 2006 (google it) and also club banners and flags, not to mention the crates of beer we had at many events.
I think its time we all gave something back
Btw. who got free club stickers? It all mounts up. _________________ |

I cant see a problem with this,we're goin to be havin a whip round at the meet at the weekend jase is sortin it all out, last year and this year simon has sorted out the club insurance for buildwas and it great that the club has these kind of things for its members otherwise weekends like buildwas wouldnt happen because i know there's no way i could afford the insurance which is needed for the buildwas site _________________ if you dont like loud music, you must be old.

as helan wrote i dont see a problem
how many clubs can you join for free
whats more if we pay a anual fee surly this is a chance for the club to move forwards
more events / maybee some charity stuff / etc
we can all name 20 peeps at least we all talk too take the p** out of basicly
all part of been a club
im sure none of us want the club to dissapere
is simon supposed to fund all this out of his own pocket _________________ isuzu 3.0 about to be a 3.1 it is now

I agree with Red Robbo -
Personally I have not and probably will not attend 'Club Events' however you guys (and Girls!) collectively have :
Told me how to fix things
where to fix things
convince me I can't fix things
saved me money
got me out of a pickle of a problem
got me to check important things
help me thought the fug of stupidity
and given me a chuckle...
I reckon the beer money it may cost is worth it !
How much & when ?

Now that's all been sorted
The amount of people who are likely to donate across all the forums is proably about 1% of all of the people who are registered. A figure off the top of my head of people who have registered is about 20 000 ??? That means that Simon wil be able to pay for him and his missus to go out for a nice mean and a drink. Not exactly 5K
If all of the forums have been contacted, is it worth having an uber garage sale. say in the midlands (close to everyone as possible?) I know I've got bits kicking round all over the place which I don't need. Out of 20 000 people I bet there's a few trucks worth.
I'm not to keen on paying cash to websites for them carrying on running, hence not jumping at the pay a £ idea, but there's alternative ways of helping.
You never know, there might be a TA squadren getting rid of a marquee or something which could go straight as a donation...
Just a thought. _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

Simon
Could you supply your own Linux servers instead of leasing them ?
If that would help - I could possibly lay my hands on a HP/Fujitsu rack mount server/servers.
We are moving to VM's and Blades, so a there is a lot of churn at work - excuse the IT speak.
As for insurance - I was heavily involved with a local LandRover club until recently. Our insurance was more like £400PA I could get you a name and address of the broker if that would help.
As for generating money from a forum. That is gonna be tricky - especially as the boundaries between the "clubs" and your "business" seem a bit blurred IMHO.
If you compare these sites with forums such as LR4x4 and PistonHeads, they've got picture hosting and/or a great classified service. To bring in the revenue, you may need to give that some thought to things like that. _________________ -----------------------------------------

Just a quid (more if you like!) in an envelope, (preferably not Paypal! Although - you can 'gift' money now ), to :
Isuzu Trooper Owners Club
Companies House
Ringwood Road
Bransgore
Christchurch
Dorset
BH23 8JQ
Or paypal : admin@pocuk.com (sorry - it's the only one I have that relates to the Clubs!) |
Cheers matey
