Hi there
I am about to fit a tow bar on my 3.1td Bighorn.
Can any one tell me whether I need to change the flasher unit, when I wire it up, for a heavy duty unit, or does it already have one?
Any help much appreciated. _________________ Trevor - new Bighorn owner |

Hi TAC
I have towed a caravan and constantly use two trailers and have never had a problem with the standard equipment in over 14 years,
Regards Jon. _________________ why is the bit of wine I like always at the bottom of the bottle |

Are you wiring the trailer indicators direct or through a relay unit. To be legal you need to add a beeper or light so the driver is aware that the trailer indicators are working. You can get combined units that switch the lights from a permanent supply, little extra load on the flasher relay and give an annoying beep, ours sounds like a duck being squashed. This is easily done with an extra live feed to the rear o/s where there is a rubber bung in the bottom of the inner wing to feed the cables out of. The main connector is on the n/s in the jack hole, but I found it easier to work in more space on the o/s and make all the solder connections there and just pick up the n/s indicator under the rear carpet trim. The live feed is also useful if you are fitting the second socket for power and reversing lights on the trailer. Ryder have a very useful website and details of the relevant bits. http://www.rydertowing.co.uk/default.htm _________________ LotusTower - '93 Lotus Bighorn |

Hi both
This is very helpful. Thanks very much. It is for towing a horse box, and I amnot worried about the reversing lights. I have a beeper for it, though I have yet to fond out what it sounds like!
Thanks again. _________________ Trevor - new Bighorn owner |

there is actually a plug just for towbar wiring that if you use genuine stuff it plugs right in, even has the foglight wire in it as well. when you take the bumper offjust to the right of the centre line you will see a plastic tip poking through the cross member. squeeze the tip together and push and the plug should fall down. every thin you need is in there |

My towbar is wired in like you mentioned but the tail light power comes from the left or the right side (I can't remember which) This means on one of my trailers only one set of lights work but on the other trailer everything bar the number plate lights and the white and red light mounted on the side works. Its a bit annoying but haven't quite found the motivation to alter it yet! (2001 3.0dt) |

Hi there
Thanks again - I'll have a good look and try and get the proper Isuzu plug.
Great to have all the help. _________________ Trevor - new Bighorn owner |
