My Trooper failed it MOT because the ABS warning light was on. Would it have failed if I had pulled the bulb/fuse so the light did not work?
I am not advocating driving round withgout ABS if it is fitted, I know the reason it has failed, I have damaged the NS front speed sensor. I would not mind buit it was self inflcted and they are expensive from main dealer, looking for one if anyone knows of a scrap car that may have one in the north west. _________________

Take the fuse out and it disables the light iirc, or the bulb, but yet, de-activting the light will alow it to pass an MOT. _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :

Most MOT testers are not switched on enough to add the ABS pump to the fact there is a bulb to check the system on the dash - but the new MOT test is linkedto DVLA and the new computer prints a check sheet - which the tester should check - if there is ABS fitted the check sheet should have a tick box - but on the older motors its obviously not upto date yet - or will it ever be - i doubt it - new speed sensor is the way - try some of the jap import people - sometimes its cheaper to import the item
cheers

The mot lamp is part of the test, if it has abs fitted the lamp must work, an mot station will have a chart which lists when the lamp goes out on all vehicles.
the other temp option is pop the cluster out and use a bridge wire and connect the abs lamp to something like the oil pressure lamp I may be wrong but i think the trooper goes out after a couple of seconds after starting the engine. _________________ landcruiser 80 series 4.5, 35's/33's for road, 2inch lift, discreet winch, sliders/armour, factory lockers, stainless side exit +++++ |

Yep, my old Mazda failed on it because the cowboy I bought it from had taken the bulb out to disguise the fact there was a major fault with the system. Never having had an ABS equipped car before I didn't realise it was bust. Mind you it had been through three other MoT's before I went to a different test centre that picked it up. _________________ Phil

I don't like things not being right so got a used sensor (new £300 inc VAT rip off IMHO), came with hub.
I was only looking at the fiddle as a way of giving me a few days to sort the problem.
See post here
MOT Passed, thank you all for assistance and opinions.
Next problem is slight oil leak from rear axle (Outer end) don'r know what I will do about that. _________________

Out of interest what may cause an oil leak if breather blocked?
I thought back axle seals involved axle off, hydraulic presses etc. , is that just the bearings?
Is there a description of how to do it anywhere? Did a search but wondering if I missed something. _________________

When the diff warms up the oil expands, if the breather isn't working then it expands through the only other thing which it can, the oil seal. _________________ For great insurance deals on 4x4s, imports and more, contact Adrian Flux :
