Hi to everyone, I've been sat in the background for a while, but now I have a problem with me trooper.......

Going down the motorway with caravan on the back, come to a roundabout and hear a noise.

open the bonnet and the drivebelts have shreaded and taken the aircon belt with them.

So I drive gingerly into mcdonalds, 100 yards, turn off engine.

I changed the 2 x alternator belts and aircon for new ones, but now she turns over but wont start.

I've had a tech2 but cannot communicate with car - its 1999 3.0td trooper citation.

Absolutely stumped and not sure what to do next........I find it strange as I drove it prior to turning the engine off........

I did remove the battery to change the belts though.........

all the best

Dan.

poof!!! (imagine a cloud of smoke!)  and here i am!!

when you connected the tech2 did it power up at all? if not then as someone said check the brake light fuse as it powers a main feed in to ecu and the socket for the tech2.

if that is ok have the belts taken out or damaged the cam sensor in the front of the timing cover? it uses this to start but once it is running it doesn't need it any more.

check these out then get back to us!

Hey here he is!!

Thanks for your help.

I have taken the cam sensor out and it all looks undamaged but it does make sense that its dead if its only checked prior to starting.

Remember before I fitted the new belts I drove it into maccy Ds with the old belts shreaded all running ok.

The tech2 was done by a mobile specialist, and all he told me over the phone was that we could not communicate with the ECU.

I have been out and checked the brake lights work so I presume the brake light fuse is ok?

I rang a dealer and they seemed to think it may of lost the immobiliser code due to the battery being removed, but there are two batteries fitted so is this still possible??

Thanks for your help so far its much appreciated.

it wouldn't matter if the old belts were shreaded as it wouldn't of been using the cam sensor anyway as it was running. the problem would of occured when you tried to restart it again which i think is what we have. that's unless you turned it off then restarted it turned it off and then it wouldn't start does that make sense!!

it won't lose the immobiliser code by disconnecting any batteries so you can ignore that

i think your specialist may of had a generic code reader not the proper tech2 which wouldn't of shown the correct data anyway even if he did manage to communicate with it.

ok so it could be the cam sensor the only way to check is to replace it or plug in with the real tech2, now all thats left for you to try is the extra 2 litres of oil from the max mark on the dipstick so make sure it's on max then add a further 2 litres of 5/30 oil if it starts the strainer has fallen off but i don't think it's this to be honest. then you need to find the big plug by the dipstick with lots of red or pink wires in it. on the other half of this plug should be a white wire located in the middle of one of the rows of the wires very carefully remove this from the plug and reconnect the plug, if it fires up the oil rail pressure sensor is fubared!

after this it will need to go a tech2 if non of the above work

All seems to point to the cam sensor then.......

Any ideas how much a cam sensor is?

Do Milners do em? I cant find them on their website.

cheers

Eithan you are the 3.0 god!!!!

Changed the camshaft / 'crank angle sensor' on Sat.

Sat in the drivers seat, closed my eyes, turned the key and vroom!!! she started.

Thanks for your help its really appreciated!!!

After 400mile round trip I've now got the warning light on and fans stopped working, so I guess I'm off to find the 'blue relay!!'

Thanks Mate.
