Is the timing supposed to advance when the truck is started cold.  Mine definitely does not and smokes white quite a bit until it warms up a bit.

The timing does not advance but the glow plugs are suppose to stay on longer (irrespective of the dash light) and a little actuator on the fuel pump ups the idle slightly.

It could just be old glow plugs. Or something wrong with the QOS sender (on top of the thermostat housing) or the vacuum system.
