|
|
I have removed my thermostat from the oil cooler water hoses, instead of the coolant now warming up then the thermostat opening and cooling the oil, the oil is now cooled from startup
Anyone see any problems with this, should i put the thermostat back on ?
What i took off
From here
What it looks like now

Personally i'd say leave it on, oil has an optimum operating temperature, you don't want it running too cool and not doing it's job correctly. I'd think when the engine is hot it won't make much difference but from cold the oil could take longer to get to it's operating temp which means it's not lubricating as well. Thats my opinion _________________ landcruiser 80 series 4.5, 35's/33's for road, 2inch lift, discreet winch, sliders/armour, factory lockers, stainless side exit +++++ |

I agree, you could over cool the oil in cold weather, diesels run quite cool as it is so I'm not quite sure why you'd need an oil cooler unless you're towing a lot in hot weather. Is it a factory fitment as my 2.8 didn't have one, I'm guessing its a lotus or some such..... _________________ Phil

it could also work the other way as well now, the oil could rob the heat from the coolant thus taking the engine longer to warm up so your on choke for longer. the stat is normally there so the coolant has a chance to get a bit of heat in it before it starts go around the oil heat exchanger. |

I believe it is indeed factory fitment, you see the black fins under the oil filter thats the oil cooler i'm on about its not a full size one thats mounted by the radiator _________________ Isuzu 2.8 powered Land Rover 90 |

it wouldn't matter thats the point of a heat exchanger and the stat is there to only allow it to work from a certain temp upwards, with out it it's working all the time |

Bringing up an old retired thread I know, but does any one know the part number for this thermostat as I'm struggling to find one...? |
