197 trooper 3.1td starting problem

I find that on initial cold start it kicks out a lot of smoke  Crying or Very sad  but after that its runs great and no smoke.
I surmise its the glo plugs but i am not a deisel man so would appreciate any help.
If it is the glo plugs how do I go about changing them are they visible and will there be any problems Question .

mine does the some (1992 4jg2) im working on new glow plugs right now hope this will fix the problem
