Help, Had a bit of a clean out of the hard drive the other day & now some sites don't bring up pics at all well. This site is one of them. When I say pics, I guess I mean image files & as I look at the page I'm typing this on, most of the smilies are missing. Some have this square with the red X & some are just blank. If I right click them & hit " show picture " they will come up OK then. Its not consistant & some sites are fine, eg Cris's pics as mentioned in the Greenlaning forum were OK but some pages with thumbnails will only show a few, the rest will be squares with red Xs. Has anyone got any idea of what I may Have done & how to fix it? Not terminal but way frustrating. Cheers & thanks, Steve.

sounds like while clearing your hard drive, you've cleared out your browser's cache. you web browser temporarily stores pics from websites you visit in a cache on your hard drive so, next time you visit that site, it can just load up the saved versions of the images on the page, to save having to download them over again.

if you've deleted your cache and you revisit a page which was cached, your browser will show the page with images missing [as it thinks it's still got them saved on your hard drive]. you need to force your browser to get fresh copies of everything and rebuild the cache. on most browsers you can do this by holding down 'alt' or 'option' on your keyboard while clicking the browsers 'reload' button.

[BTW - i use a mac. not sure if 'alt' or 'option' is how it's labelled on a PC keyboard?]

they'd still be cached by the browser. any content of a webpage that isn't specifically defined as "no-cache" will be cached. [besides BBcode img tags are converted to regular HTML server-side].

thanx! - it's good to find a trooper site that seems to actually have some life about it and which has been updated within the last decade. Very Happy
