I'm looking at buying some recovery equipment what’s the most useful of for use whilst greenlining:-

Hilift jack

Waffle boards

Air compressor

I already have a recovery strap and shackles but may look for a kinetic rope mainly for non stress towing (i know the dangers with using these for recovery)

if any of these which makes/models are the best

Are there are any other bits of equipment worth carrying

Mick

shouldn't really need much recovery gear just for greenlaning ......

if you need loads of gear ....the lane isn't really suitable to be driving in the first place.

saying that ....i have a towing strap/ropes and a hi-lift Laughing

If a lane is in a state that you would need recovery then it should not be driven (as Red said)
Lanes are not playgrounds and the more they are treated that way the more we lose, there are loads of playday sites for that  Wink

A good attitude but not entirely correct. Take very rocky lanes like stanage for example, you take the wrong line you can get well stuck with out damaging the lane in any way.

There are lots of hard surfaced very rocky lanes like this that can be driven all year round but off great potential for getting properly high centred needing a hi lift and waffles to free your self.

Also in the real world someone can do something stupid like back into a ditch or something (seen it more than once) better to pull them out than them sitting there chewing the bank out spinning wheels. Always be prepared with more equipment than you will need then think about what you shouldn't be doing.

There has been a volentery down only thing for a long time as it takes so long with no passing places it could get very choked up which would be a nicence to other users with pople going both ways. You can get very stuck on the way down too!

What list is that on BTW?

I can't see the problem driving up "out of hours" like in my Avatar. That was about 01:00 and a very surreal experience-)

The whole Hull4x4 thing at the very bottom did a lot of damage in more ways than one, but it has been repaired now.

And this

Quote:
SENSITIVE ROUTES

Stanage Edge (Bamford - The Long Causeway SK2284-4a)

This route is one of a number of BOATs and UCRs which are officially listed by Derbyshire County Council as "Sensitive".

Please be very mindful of the sensitivity of this route when organising green laning trips.

During recent repairs at the lower end there has been a voluntary restraint agreement with local groups not to use the route. As the most urgent repairs have now been done there is no longer a complete restriction on 4x4s using the Long Causeway, but please be careful not to cause undue wear and tear to the surface, which varies widely from sand to rock steps with loose boulders. Standard 4x4s may need a "spotter" in the narrow rocky section to avoid potential problems. Avoid bad weather - there are steep drops in places and the rocks can get slippery.

Please use this byway/UCR only in the downhill direction (starting from Redmires Reservoir end). This has been agreed as part of a voluntary code with the Stanage Forum and all users are asked to respect this. Going up the hill causes more wear to the surface, and more noise.

Lastly, please advise your members to adhere closely to the GLASS drivers code of conduct, and not exceed group sizes of 4 vehicles on any route.

The most "Sensitive" routes are listed on the PDNPA web site at this link:

http://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/index/looking-after/vehicles/vehicles-routes.htm

It is well worth checking out this web page before setting out to the Peak District, to get the latest advisory information.

Note that the route from Tenterhill to Leycote (Washgates - SK0467-3a) is currently closed by a temporary TRO. Please do not attempt to drive it.

ILLEGAL OFF-ROADING

A number of routes are being endangered by 4x4s and trail bikes going "off-road" onto the moor land or private land adjacent to green lanes. In some cases (e.g. Houndkirk Road) this has become a major problem with ad hoc off-road courses being carved out in the moorland near the road.

GLASS take any illegal motor vehicle activity very seriously. Where it is taking place we encourage the police and highway authorities to stop it and - if necessary - take action against the people responsible. We need your help to do this.

You should ring the police on 0845 123 3333 if you see motorists:

. Going 'off-road' on to open moorland
. Driving or riding on footpaths or bridleways
. In a vehicle that is not road legal.

I presume it's the long causeway. Hmm nothing official about one way, thats a Glass thing IIRC.

They are having a big go in Derbyshire at the moment but at least they are considering motorists! There are too many "off piste" ruts and holes on most of these lanes this needs to be stamped out but I can't see how.

Quite amusing that Chapel Gate is on there as its still got tarmac on parts!!!
