Hi all,

I bought my 1999 trooper 12 months ago, all recall work done, very happy, until now.
It started by not starting 1 minute then trying it again, then it would start. I put a new fuel filter on, and seemed to be ok for
a couple of months, then it started again. The annoying part is you never know if it is going to fire or not. The car runs fantastic when running, didnt miss
a beat in a 500mile trip, its never stopped running once started. i know when its not going to fire the check engine light stays on. The other thing
is if i get a tow to get up some speed it will bump and be fine. I have noticed this morning there seems to be some diesel running down the engine
not alot but a hint, have checked the filter all seems there,

any help much appreciated

cheers,

sunday afternoon none start. got a tow and it bumped started.

Tried it again to today all ok, tried nearly a dozen times over the morning started everytime, had a quick run round town to.

The check engine light flashs while cranking. But im sure it stays lit when it wont start.

Also spoke to my local dealer today about recalls, and thay are telling me the injectors are outstanding, but i have reciepts from when i bought
it to say they have been done!?

Any response much apperciated

Next time it doesnt start, try pulling the intercooler outlet to inlet manifold rubber hose off.  There should be a flat flap visible in the housing (throttle/accelerator housing) that you've just pulled the hose off.  Make sure that the flap is fully open when you try to start it.  It could be that throttle housing is faulty...its the most common cause of Check Engine light, and equally, when shut, the engine wont fire!
If its shut, push it open and try starting.  You won't hurt it, as its a non-mechanical drive.

I think there should be a small white sticker on the cambox plastic cover  with the injector numbers  on if they have been done under recall but if the dealer is offering the work foc take him up on it as they will use tech II to set the new ones so if there is a DTC for the TPS  - Throttle positon sensor - stored chances are they will tell you thus saving £78 + vat diagnostic plug in charge  !

It could be a recall on the bad batch that was fitted and thats why its flagging up,, or a previous owner paid for new ones  Question

i will have a look for the said pipe, not the sharpest knife sometimes so might be more questions about which pipe. Does any one have a pic?  Very Happy

its should have a thin film of oil on it, but not a heavy coating.  I took mine out and stripped it right down to components - good degreaser and clean it up and most of my check engine light issues went away.  The flap closes to shut the engine down, so it is possible that if its faulty the flap is occasionally not opening.
A clean might help, but just making sure its open when the car wont start will rule it out.
