I have XP Pro and IE8 on my old desktop PC and on my new laptop and I must say I'm having no problems. Rightly or wrongly I have avoided Vista because of bad reports and specifically had my new laptop set up with XP Pro. The people I bought it from were not surprised in the least and said they supply more computers with XP P than they do with Vista.
Not that I should be confused with anybody who knows anything about the subject!! |

Vista is not that bad when you get used to it but it loves memory, we put an extra gig in this when we got it, For some reason though ie8 was shocking, How long has it been out? _________________

I don't know, but I think it's only a few months - it's copyright date is 2009, if that's relevant. |

Ok thanks i'll leave it a while and retry, Dont know whether it was all that suggested site garb that was slowing it or what, Opening a new tab would take what seemed like ages probably 5 seconds or so where using ie7 it's instant _________________

In fairnes, my old desktop (which is XP Home, not Pro as I said D'OH!!) takes a couple of seconds to open a new tab, but then it takes a couple of seconds to do anything!
Just so you can see what an old clunker it is, here's its system info:

I'm pretty disappointed with Vista ... and now, the Vista / IE8 combo seems to have gone a step too far!
the ONLY useful thing I've found is ...
Instead of losing all your open IE windows when you get the 'internet explorer has stopped responding' message, at least it seems to manage to recover your open windows for you, so you can carry on where you left off!
