Better than good old Slick 50 and a shot of Redex ?
have a 4JX1 3.0DT, and these need as much protection as they can get. |
i've just one thing to say about slick50,it coats your engine in ptfe(and not the nice even coating they would have you belive,it only sticks to VERY hot things) and anything that reduces flow in oilways can't be good
now for any that listen,i've tried the pro-tec range in my car,and it's fantastic stuff. mind you,i don't have a trooper, mine is only a little 300bhp mitsi |

It coats the walls with teflon, and therefore in theory can reduce the diameter of the oil pipe/passage, especially if it doesn't coat it evenly. _________________

ZX1 certainly quietened my 3.1 motor down, so much so, I put it in the Merc too (2.2 TD) which works very hard on motorways and it is the quietest 2.2 around, including new models with only a couple of thousand miles on them. Otherwise, I totally agree with you. _________________ 1999 Cougar with a NICE motor..

Stuck this in my 3.2 V6 a couple of weeks ago, it's gotten so quiet it's better than when I bought the car five years ago at 50k miles (now over 100k).
Well worth it - also seems to have sorted the valve rattle _________________ 1993 3.2 V6 SWB manual (Zambia)

i used it in my 2004 rodeo 3.0 did not see any change ,i just keep the oil changed i change it every 3000m which is best as the oil is the life blood of the engine ,i have been working on vehicles since 1978 ones with regular oil changes run better ,give better mpg and run cleaner, all my customers have the 6month/ 5000m oil changes |

Hi all,
I'm with Hulk and the Bean on this one.
There have been a number of posts here, over the years, on different additives from Extralube to Redex, the last one I used was in a 1976 1275GT Mini and if my memory serves me well, was concocted from an ancient recipie of STP, sawdust and bird lime, though I forgert the quantities.
I have just purchased a 1999 3.0l so, although much happier with the underside which has decided to remain with the car (as opposed to removing itself flake by flake), I am, of course, now plagued with the worries of the 3.0l owner and have found myself driving slower than my Grandma (who would drive all the way around town to avoid reversing).
When she was awake.
So, I really want to make sure that the engine remains in tip-top condition (it's done 85000 so far on regular services) and would quite happily add anything to the oil if it will assist it's journey round the engine and end up where it started doing all the correct stuff inbetween.
After some years of this what are the opinions of the brave pioneers out there who dared breathe something into their filler caps that wasn't made up simply of wings and prayers?
I really would appreciate any feedback
Stu.
Now, where's that bird lime? |

Well, as an update, I put some in yesterday and the car still runs, though it currently has an unrelated running problem. Once I can get that sorted I will be able to give a better idea of the lubrication properties. I would say that the engine seems slightly smoother and possibly quicker upon start up, but seeing as I have some rough-running issues at the moment it's a bit too early to say.
