c.d player loses power when lights are turned on ?

Help..got my new car home trooper 3.1TD citation, at first the cd player which was in car didnt work until next day when i noticed it had power and radio/cd player worked fine..until i turn on head lights.  So guy next door who a sparky but also knows a bit about car elecs had a look...he wired it straight to battery, which worked for a day or so but now original prob back..any ideas whats going on ?

if your getting power direct from battery but it's still only working periodicly i'd say it's a prob with head unit it's self
if you have or can borrow a spare unit...doesn't matter what it is .....plug that in and see if you have same prob
