Well it has been a while since posting anything here, and a lot of water has gone under the bridge as it were. Long and short is she has been neglected, and off the road for several months while other stuff had to be sorted.
This was the first weekend free to dive in while the weather was good and get around to sorting the issues needed to get her on the road again.
List of jobs to do:
Passenger front wheel bearings.
Passenger front upright needle bearing.
Complete strip down, refurb, install and adjust of all the brakes.
Underseal.
New rubber.
Doesn't seem like much but it all takes time.
First off was to sort out the rear brakes, which on a Mk.I Trooper involves Satanic rites and selling yet more of your soul.
Also starting at the rear allowed me to put the new rubber on.
And comparison with my temp wheels. This is what you get when comparing a stock 235/70R16 to my new and shiney Grabber AT2 33x12.5R15
Then I moved onto the front. The driver side was first as all that needed was the caliper refurbing and cleaning/sealing
Passenger side to last. This was going to be a challenge. I had already replaced the wheel and needle bearings some months ago, but for some reason the CV joint wouldn't seat properly and meant I couldn't get the circlip on. I checked the bearings to see if they would fit and had the right bevel etc. I just concluded that it needed stripping again and putting together more carefully. To be honest with this prospect I lost heart and left it for ages. Anyways today I had the enthusiasm and determination to get it right.
Stripped
This time for some reason it all went together smoothly. Bearings went in a treat, Needle bearings and thrust washers seated nicely. All dropped back onto the truck and the groove for the circlip was perfectly lined up. Why it didn't do that in the first place I don't know
After all this I set to underneath with a wire brush and a 5l tub of Waxoyl and went about treating the chassis. I hate that job with a vengeance. It is dirty, messy, and filthy .. and not in a good way. However the chassis is now nice and black and I didn't find any rot other than surface rust. Happy Days .....
... Dammit.
Was doing the rear drivers wheel arch and thought I would poke that dodgy bit I have been ignoring for the last few years. Has never been mentioned in any MOT, but thought this time it might require some work.
That is going to be a 10" long hole by the time I have cut it back to good metal. Just as well I have a welder now. Time to get some more practice in. _________________ 1990 Isuzu Bighorn LWB Mk.I 2.8TD Manual Lotus Edition

She went under the knife!
That has been zinc primered and painted.
Windscreen was replaced today.
All that needs doing is finish off the undersealing, clean, tidy and once over for the MOT booked on Monday _________________ 1990 Isuzu Bighorn LWB Mk.I 2.8TD Manual Lotus Edition

Aaaaand it is a ........ fail
1) Exhaust rubber missing
2) Ball Joint split pin missing
3) Horn not working (stupid stupid me not testing it)
4) Handbrake not up to efficiency. Works, but not enough ... f%$king thing.
In all not bad. Got the garage to fix it and chuck it in again. _________________ 1990 Isuzu Bighorn LWB Mk.I 2.8TD Manual Lotus Edition
