I've just been to my local dealer this morning to pick up the 2 oil filters to do an oil change (one primary, one secondary), only to be told that they don't sell the secondary filter any more, and that Isuzu's service advice has changed. They now say not to change the secondary filter at all  Confused .

Has anyone else heard of this ??

YES Isuzu say it only needs to be changed when the engine is rebuilt, I change mine every second oil change you can get them from a good motor factors or from Milners .

How bizarre  Shocked . Is this to protect the engine on first start up after an oil change, or is there another reason ?

I take it they didn't give the rationale behind the decision?  Less effort on a service though if it's not needed Smile

I must say when I bought my 3.0DT and a then a Filer kit from Milners, when we set to it to do the work noticed the Secondary filter said 'Lifetime' on it and was as Isuzu ite,, stating it never needed replacing.

We replaced it and since then , whenever I buy a filter kit I feel I  may as well swap it out - its paid for and all.

No explanation, simply "It's what Isuzu UK now recommend". I can't beleive it's just to save time, becuase the rates they charge they must make good money for changing it.

The secondary oil filter is only for the injection system, not the engine some dealers say lasts a life time others say change at 24000  as I have said I change mine every second oil change,as a good clean oil supply is important for this type of injector system and as they only cost a few pounds whats the point of skimping

I had an oil leak which seems to have disappeared after that filter was changed on the last service.

I can only think that the reason for NOT changing it is that the priming of it after service is perhaps causing premature failure, either in the pump or the injectors - that the starvation of the oil from the injectors is causing some of the damage?

I'll probably reduce the frequency I change mine from now, on this basis.  It certainly cant be on cost basis.

i have heard nothing from isuzu on this and i cant believe with the injector problems they are saying don't change it, it should be changed every 24,000 miles even though it does say maintenance free on it.

i will look in to it and post up here what i find

Thanks Eithan, it would be good to know. Mines currently changed every 3000 hence dropping the interval. Will probably do it every 18000 now, depending on the findings from IM.
