Sorry I didn't phrase that quite right. I was re-inforcing what you were saying.  Go through the insurance.

he he,  now now lads no fighting. Smile

update

the guy turned up. i asked him for a card and he said he didn't have any then i told him that i can't find anything about him on net,  thats because i'm a one man band and not an official buisness.   i told him to forget it, i want it done profesionally so i don't want you touching my car!!   he then disapeared around the corner on foot.

i rang up malvern tyres and told him the bloke you sent round was just a guy who happens to own a set of spanners he's not touching it and i want it done properly,

he said its not like that and were not trying to rip you off, he said the guy was recomended to him and he was told that the guy had a garage next to one of their depots.

i told him this is getting silly and its been over a week and i want it sorted insurance or not.   i asked him how much his excess is and he claims its £1000 i then said if you want to send me a cheque for 800 i will get it sorted and source the parts myself.

we play everything above board, he said  Laughing    it would need to go through the books and i'd need a receipt. Rolling Eyes

i said fine,  i'll ring my insurers back and we'll do it that way, suits me  i'll get a courtesy car and a professional job done on my car.   you asked me to get you quotes,  which i did,

first quote £1030 cash, second quote £1300+vat but you don't want to pay up because from what damage your driver told you was done you think the quotes are excessive , then you send round some bloke around because you heard he was cheap, i said i 've tried to be good about this and not make things awkward but i'm still looking at a damaged car and i'm doing all the running.  " ok"  he said,  let me speak to my buisness partners but they may not go for it.

i said,  i just want it fixed and put back to the condition it was before your driver landed on it.   END OF PHONE CALL.

so that was it, if i don't get a good response by monday afternoon then i'm going to do what i should have done in the first place and let my insurance handle it. *beeb*!!

sweeney.

ok,  monday still no response, i was at work and tuesday i arrive in ireland [work].  wife gets a call saying can you just bare with us and get quotes from two other people that i've told to expect your call. Twisted Evil   1st call goes,  i do some work for evans halshaw and i 'll meet you outside there place at so + so, wife says forget it, end of call.

2nd,  guy has a proper place of buisness and is legit, Shocked     he has a thorough look at car and notes that drivers door is rubbing against wing,  then see's that the weld is snapped on the hindge side door post!!!!!!   estimated quote £1900 or more.

so wife rings insurance they say drop the car into so + so garage and they'll arrange for an assesor to check it out 3-5 days. wife says what about courtesy car but they say this will not be an option untill car is assesed, in case its a writeoff in that case you will be paid out so there's no need for courtesy car.

After 7 calls and £18 on my wifes pay as you go mobile [ oh, just don't ask] they finally agree to send the assesor to our house.

now were waiting for there call to inform us WHEN the assesor is coming. Mad

i just can't believe how difficult these bwankers are being,   we have fully comp, with all the bells and legal cover, we are not liable nor can we be because he smashed into our parked car outside our house,  to be honest i haven't looked at the snapped weld cuz i'm sick of the whole thing,  can't believe that i might loose my most favourite car ever through no fault of my own.

f'kin really gutted.

There having a Gifraffe mate, Should'nt take this long to get an ass out to your car. Is your motor a driver or is she layed up ???????
If she,s a non driver and your fully comp and non fault then they are obliged to give you a hire shed to keep you going.

drivable and they know it Rolling Eyes

well no sign of the assesor,  wife rings them up and they won't be sending anyone out afterall.  Mad   we have to take it to a garage where there assesor will look at it in 3-5 days.  no chance of getting a courtesy car either Twisted Evil  Twisted Evil

she's told them we will not be renewing our policy with these clowns, but they won't budge.

crazy thing is that if the damage was my fault then we'd get courtesy car,  i'd have thought that they'd look after us and pass the bill on to the other drivers ins company but NO that would make far to much sense.

Can you beleive all this *beep* we're having to go through?
i swear i just want to HURT someone real bad  Evil or Very Mad

UN EFFIN BELIEVABLE!!

I neeed a drink.

Pone the Citzens Advice Bureau and get some free legal advice. You are entitled to an hours free advice though you will have to book an appointment. I would also seriously consider phoning the Ombudsman

http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/

Insurance companies and the like hate the ombudsmen phoning them as they automatically get stiffed £400 whenever an investigation is started. The worse case scenario is the truck is written off, the insurance payout is calculated, you buy the vehicle back, and then get the work repaired yourself with the money you get for the insurance payout. Then a quick trip to VOSA to get the VIN checked and voila back on the road. Ok your premium might go up a little, but at least its sorted.

Another thing you could possibly do is complain about the third party and your insurance company to your MP. I had to do that recently with my brothers Income Support as they made a monumental **ck-up. One letter from her on "House of Commons" headed paper and envelope and it was sorted in a week.

Thanks for the advice, mate.

haven't rang them back yet, were supposed to arrange when we'll drop car to garage. but i'm currently looking for another car to use while the clowns do their sums.

can you guys clear this up for me?  if it gets classed as financial writeoff, will this mean it gets a Q plate? i don't think it will but other peoples opinions have made me unsure.

REGARDING the snapped weld the guy at the garage found,  its only two spot welds holding the sliding catch thingy that stops the door swinging to far open. Rolling Eyes
i hadn't actually looked at it myself untill today,  Laughing  when the wife told me the weld had snapped i just assumed it was some sort of major seam weld on the chassis Embarassed .

Not 100% up on this but if its a cost write off then its keeps its plate but will be classed 'C, D or E ' depending on the numptys view.

E and D is best as its less hassel to put it on the road again '

Q plate is for something made of parts that you dont want to pay for an age related plate - or it was  Confused

Sure so of the motor trade members will know for sure .

It's not a wright-off Gribble. I've staightened a car with buckled chassis, front grille assy complete, wing, gearbox mount and bonnet.
This was a Mk3 escort a lad put in a ditch. Insurance insisted we got the alignment checked though.

When it's been sorted it will be time to blame and shame though Sweeny!

I had some neer-do-wells in a transit and trailer loose the trafic light off the trailer. It hit my 'P' reg 940 Volvo whilst parked.
Rear light, electric heated mirror, dent in the 'A' pillar, scratches. Main dealer repair, Hire car, new (1500miles) jaguar estate, beautiful job
done on my car, washed it too! No loss of NCB, and all sorted in 3 weeks. Guess who I have renewed my insurance with?  Co-op.

It will be cat C or D. There is nothing you have said that will make it unsafe for road use. Cat B or A means that it can never return to the road due to major structual damage like both chassis rails snapped. This is the g/f's Pug 106 after a 7 car pile up which had 5 cars hit her. She walked away with a broken tooth. It was a Cat A

The entire body was wrung and even the interoir was crushed. The gearbox had pushed the bulkhead back by 6" as well.

If it is Cat C or D it will still retain its number plate (not a Q) instead it will have a marker held against it preventing a new V5 being issued or a reminder send to current owner or (possibly but not sure of this one) tax being bought for it until it has been to a VOSA station, £40 paid, and the VIN checked against the reg plate.
