Hi all im new to the forums and I would like to ask a question as my mechanic friends are unsure ..

When I bought this big fella it had done 145,000 miles and the last owner (who is a personal friend) couldnt tell me if the timing belt had been done and he said he hadnt checked wether it had a belt or a chain ....

can anyone tell me what this model has as im not mechnically minded so if you need more info before you would know just tell me what you require..the car itself drives like a dream and the engines purring along nicely, its my second diesil car and I have always been told to change the timing belt if you dont know its history, all I can tell is that my friend bought a second hand gear box and fitted it as the last ones 4x4 wasnt working, so he,s got it all back together and as I say its running like a dream...

Have a look at the front of your engine. If it has ribbed plastic covers its has a belt, if it has domed metal covers its gears, not chains. Those were the only options I've ever been aware of.
