Hi,
I'm having trouble with the oil pressure. I got a oil and filter change 2 weeks ago, both filters and full synth. 5-30 oil (as always)
One mornin I started the engine and noticed that the oil light did not go off and the oil gauge was at zero (I'm awere that sometimes it takes a while to build oil pressure but this was different)
I tried to start the engine a few times and gave it a little gas but the oil light did not go off.
So I removed the by-pass-valve and the regulator valve on the oil housing and they looked OK after that check the oil light whent off and the gauge was showing normal pressure.
(like scrooge did here http://www.itocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2026&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15)
This was okey for 4 days then it happened again.
The oil level is just a little bit over the max and It seems that the cooler fluid is leakin a bit.
Now i'm trying to locate the oil pressure sensor (think it might be the fault) and I can't find it.
I have this image but I don't know where on the engine it is.
Can you please advice me on where the oil pressure sensor is located and also if you have any additional advice it would be much appreciated.
Thanks |

Just a thought, can this happen (the oil pressure light does not go off) if there is to much oil on the engine.
Cause when I checked the valves a bit of oil came out and after that it was okey.
After running for 4 days and if the coolant is leaking into the oil so the oil level rises over the max, could that be the reason? |

of course I ment that disel oil could be leaking into the engine oil, not coolant. |

Hi Dados,
I highly recommend that you first plug in a TECH-2 and see if there is a fault code.
That said, if yours is an Turbo intercooler, to access the ORPS you have to take of the intercooler, the soundproofing just above the housing for the injectors.
It is positioned almost in the middle of the OIL RAIL and the Injectors.
Have a look at page 1915 of the workshop manual.

This image show probably the oil pressure sensor on the rail.
I'm looking for the other one "oil pressure unit" Anyone? |

Its on the engine oil filter housing just above the oil filter . Tech 2 will not show any engine oil pressure faults up so its best to check the longer of the two strainers in the tin sump for cracks or poor O seal as this will let air in so oil pressure wont rise .
The sensor in the picture is for the injection oil pressure which is not the pressure shown on the dash gauge.
If your oil level is rising and the oil is very thin and watery then its a good chance the injectors or the copper sealing washers are leaking - this wants to be sorted out real quick as it can lead to all sorts of big problems . _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |

Thanks, Gribble I found the oil pressure sensor, this was too obvious
Thanks guys I think I got it now, here is my checklist
Checklist:
Oil viscosity (is the oil level rising?)
Oil filter sealing
Oil pressure sensor/unit

Hi Pal
New to Owners Club. Started a few weeks ago on start up with oil light staying on nothing on guage. Doesn't happen every time. Fitted new oil pressure switch behind main filter still occasional problem. Did you manage to sort yours if so can you enlighten me? Now starting to wonder if it is electrical. Dealers never heard of it as a comon problem.
As it is a major worry going to France in a few weeks with it!!!
would really appreciate any advice. |

first thing would be to change the strainer and seal in the sump then go from there, it's a very common problem and the seals wear a bit and whilst your in there change the seal on the small strainer as well and don't forget to put a smear of sealant on them as well |

It could be a suction problem with the longer of the two suction tubes in the sump , the O seal can go hard and the strainer body can crack so air gets in , it wont always do it just sometimes . _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |
